bobby1413 I still can't believe there were some idiots on BBCRB no less than 4-5 weeks ago calling for Coppell to be sacked.

The radio is a haven for the gobshite.

Ian Royal Exactly Arch. What reward do us positive fans get if we don't get to gloat when the negative nancy's are proved to have declared the demise of RFC early once more.

nyar nyar nya nyar nyar.

Told you we weren't doomed to be whipping boys and guaranteed relegation. :P

Not much in the grand scheme of things to be honest, loads and loads of fans agree with you.
Surely when you go to these matches you've felt that.

Some people will moan about anything I guess, and reach for the panic button.

Now where is that more deserving and more superior tent?

The bastards do shout loud sometimes. It can get quite unnerving and make you think you're one of very very few who arn't reactionary idiots.

Most of them are the same people year in year out.
They're the minority, not you.

He may well have done that TBH, however can we really go further?

Mr Madejski seems to think he has taken us as far as he can, we will not know untill the future tho, thats how it is.

Royal Rother Indeed; but those who showed unwavering faith in the ability of the players and management to get things right during the dodgy spell are somewhat more deserving of their reward.

And within 18 hours of Royal Rother patting himself on the back we blow a lead three times, shipping 6 goals in the process  . Lest anyone forget - we are still right in the midst of a relegation battle, focus please gentlemen.

Mildly concerned I'd say. Portsmouth, Villa and Man Utd our next three league games. I hope you are still using the laugher emoticon at the end of those sequence of matches!

You really must be the most pessimistic RFC supporter.

We have 18 games left and need 5 wins, 3 draws and 10 defeats to be absolutely sure of safety. I see no reason why we should not comfortably achieve this.

In reality 4 wins and 3 draws will probably be enough as there were 7 teams below 20 points at the half season so 37 points is likely to be enough.

We don't need 10 defeats . If - no, let's say when than shall we? - we achieve that it will be job done and a big well done to those of you who would be right all along. You can then enjoy sucking on the cigar of smugness, blowing smoke in the faces of those who dared to doubt on the puny basis of a series of poor results 8).

I actually think that we will stay up simply because sides that score goals will tend to win more games than those who can't. Floyd Streete on Mastermind, specialist subject the bleedin' obvious. What makes me slightly less optimistic is the least convincing defence since Fred West.

Are we not only 3 points adrift of the points total at this stage last season?

If so we're not doing bad are we?

Who thought we'd get away from WHL with anything but a defeat anyway?

Aggregate loss of 0-2.

Not bad.

We're five points behind but I am well and truly in the RTG crowd. Just thought I'd point it out...

We are doing no worse and no better than be seriously expected.

We have a strong spirit in our squad with good players.

We will be fine.

We will NOT be relegated.

End of.

I don't really doubt that we'll avoid relegation but can anyone realistically say we're moving forward as a team or squad?

Thats what we need to be doing.

I agree with those that have said football isnt really all that important but that really doesn't mean that within the contraints of our football 'world' (ie at the, in the pub, chatting with mate or killing time on Hob Nob) we shouldn't want the best for RFC, or that we shouldn't expect and hope for good performances on the pitch.

The performance against Spurs was better than many this season, but it highlights some problems in the squad that the club need to address for the long term health of the team.

I do agree that standing still should not be the aim, but looking at the big picture, it seems generally accepted that until we become established in the PL with 2 or 3 seasons under our belt we might not be taken quite seriously enough when competing for players in the transfer market.

One season small-club wonders like us up against established (if hardly mighty) Wigan, Fulham, Bolton, M'Boro, and (supposedly "bigger clubs") Birmingham, Sunderland, West Ham etc. are always likely to come off 2nd best, unless we are offering significantly higher wages, I suggest.

When we are a "fixture" in the PL we might find negotiations a little easier, so maybe it is considered less important to move forward than just consolidate our place this season.

Just a thought...

Add to that, once we have a stadium which is Prmiership sized, and the recent completion of the training ground facilities will also help with that.

I don't know why, but some of this discussion reminds me of a thread from 2 or 3 years ago which was about how poor our attendances were, and I was on the side of as the team grows, and kids come through and get their own STs etc etc we would fill the stadium, and grow as a team.

This is a similair debate - as we grow in stature, and develop as a established premiership club, we will be able to get the right players in to start moving up the table.

For now, consolidation is the key, although we can't stand still. We need to invest in players who will help us progress, and consolidate further. We won't get the top layer of players, but we can definately invest in players like Taylor who can help us take the next step.
