Tinrib
cmonurz Premiership experience, tough tackler, confident performing a holding role, available for little or no transfer fee, Robbie Savage……oh.

Thats the same Robbie Savage who ended up at Derby....Oh..

There might be a clue in that.

Yes, the same Robbie Savage who played 20 times for Blackburn this season. It's not like he has been in the reserves for 6 months.

cmonurz I don't personally think that Harper's place is up for grabs when Matejovsky has played 20 minutes or so for Reading.

It may well not be, but Matejovski is the creative midfielder we have been lacking so it would be silly not to play him in the middle surely? If Harper plays next to him there's no space for the defensive midfielder just mentioned.

Would you rather have had Savage than Matejovski?

And he's at Derby now.

Lets face it, he's crap, too old (33) and is in the twilight of his career, oh and those stats include all cup games, league games, intertoto, & uefa cup.

The proof is in the pudding. Let's see if he has a positive impact at Derby?

Is Derby or Reading closer to Savage's family home in Wales?

IMO sidwell and harper were both good all round midfielders, neither played the usual modern DM role.
they both can pass it, tackle(or rush up to opposition player and wave arms till he passes it, like harps), great work rates, tracking back , but also great shot on them, get goals etc

matejovsky is supposed to be tough tackling as well as technically good, so i see no reason why harps and marek cant work together
would like to see him get 1/2 hour Vs chelsea, and a full home debut vs bolton to assess him properly over the three appearances, 10 mins isnt enough, though it was agreat start, there were glimpses of why we have bought him, some great vision in the pass, and a fair bit of heart, and skill too
im not blase or naive about it, but i am certainly hopefull, and about cisse at the back
all we need is for sonko, bikey and fae to have blinding ACN and return full of confidence and fitness
and well be flying again

doesnt mean we dont still need another defensive midfielder though, or a winger

79Royal With Little potentially back in March and Doyle/Hunt doing an effective if not brilliant job out on the right wing, then I'd say our first priority is a defensive midfielder. .

We will be raving bonkers if we gamble anything whatsoever on Little returning to first team action in March (much as I'd love him too).

We also need a bit more than 'effective' to get us out of our current predicament. In my mind that means we need someone who can do a brilliant job on the right wing and, if we don't have that player available in our squad, we need to sign someone.

Royal Rother and integrity has been corrupted in sport by the lure of money. Except at Reading FC!!!

Tell that to York City.

I think he was referring to our" honourable" club refusing to pay £20,000 or so to a very hard-up York City-details forgotten.

Mauro Zarate, Argentina U20 striker, joins Birmingham on loan for the rest of the season.

IIRC, we'd promised to pay York and extra £20,000 if Murty played a certain number of games for us. The problem was that Murty signed a new contract for us in the meantime, and we tried to claim that as it didn't happen during the duration of the original contract, we no longer had to pay the £20,000. I can only assume York agreed to a very ambiguous appearance clause linked to his original contract. I think we paid up in the end.

It was £50,000 if we gained promotion. When we did so in 2002, Reading refused to pay up because he had signed a new contract. After York complained to the authorities we made a payment to them, but the sum was never disclosed and the implication was that it was less than £50,000.

It hasn't been completed yet due to a problem with his medical I believe.

Wasn't it thought that when Murty had a long injury lay off we terminated his contract then signed him as a free transfer the same day, voiding all the original additional payments from when he signed from York?
