When Coppell leaves.....

by SteveRoyal » 14 Jan 2009 15:17

Coppell will leave us at some point in the future, for whatever reasons.
I've just been listening to the Reading Podcast, and they talk about Coppell leaving at the end of the season, contract run-outs, breaks, etc. being the reasons.

My question is - who would you like to see manage Reading after Coppell leaves (not necessarily this season)?
In your post include what division we're in and reasons. Cheers. :!:

I would like Sir Alex Ferguson

Realistically someone maybe like Alan Curbishley

This is based on us winning promotion to the PREM

Yes of course it's inevitabel but it could be so far in the future that a whole new breed of managers will have developed by then.

Let's not talk as though he's going to leave tomorrow because he isn't.

Pointless.

I'd put a fair wedge on him leaving at the end of the season. I don't doubt his dedication to the job at present but he's stated time and time again that he needs a break.

Gareth Southgate. Failing that, Brendan Rodgers, or Roberto Martinez.

Not Phil Parkinson.

Why this obsession with him. Yes...great player for us.

Absolutely SHOCKING record as manager at Charlton. I cringe every time
I hear the '5 parkinsons' chant start up. MOVE ON !

Sanchez wouldn't get it.

Martinez is a good shout

Don't be surprised at a promotion from within.

Not so sure Coppell will go in the summer, much has been made about one off the cuff remark made when the going was tough. I suspect if you ask him about 'needing a break' now you'd get a rather different answer.

Coppell would be one of the few managers for whom contract status won't be an issue - if he wants another year he'll get it.

And much depends on who the owners are.

That's a bit unfair on Parky - he hardly inherited a team in form....

Nice to see the pod is generating discussion...

Anyway the point I was trying to make re Coppell was in relation to Lita staying. The fact that SSC could leave this summer if he feels he has done his job here could see Lita extend his stay if his replacement feels he is a better option than what we have. Not that I believed he would be off for sure.

I for one hope it doesn't leave but if he did, someone like Nigel Adkins wouldn't be a bad shout.

Roy Keane, he'll be brought in to ensure we keep a good relationship with Cork City for future signings.

Hopefully he won't leave us for a long time, so Alex Pearce.

However, in all seriousness, if we won promotion at the end of the season I'd take (in order):
Martinez
Parky
Rodgers
Murty
Ridg- oh bother, he's fictional.

PLease lord no, I'd rather have Colin.

Anyway, I reckon Coppell actually cares about the future of the club and would have it in mind to be involved in some sort of succesion planning when he (inevitably) decides to go, so wouldn't be unsurprised by promotion from within. Of the managers out there I really don't know who we'd a) want and b) be able to get.
