Reading 6/4
Wolves 6/4
Birmingham 11/2
Cardiff 9
Swansea 66

Given that these games will be factored into the Championship betting - looks like the bookies think that Wolves are starting their slide!

The bookies HAVE GOT IT ALL WRONG.

Harpur is a cautious, non-tackling crab, Kebe and Hunt wouldn't cut it in League 1, Doyle has dried up
and won't score another goal (that's obvious, no goals in four games) Duberry is too old, Pearce is too young,
Hanneman's arms are too short, Cisse can't pass, Armstrong is injury prone, Rosenior can't score, Coppeell
doesn't have a clue and doesn't know when to change the team, Madjeski is only interested in making money
and The Mad Stad doesn't actually exist.

Are they still doing each-way? I presume not but if they were Swansea would be an amazing bet

Why being top of the league makes Wolves fans miserable

By Neil Moxley

It may surprise you to know that journalists do talk to one another.

While standing around at Molineux chewing the fat last week after the 3-3 draw against Norwich City, one of my colleagues mentioned a character he had invented called 'Miserable Dave'.

Now Miserable Dave is a Wolves fan. He's typical Black Country, just to paint a picture for you.

He's a loyal, hard-working, knows the value of a pound - loves the Wolves. Okay? You can see where we are coming from.

He's not always been known as Miserable Dave, though. Oh no. He's only recently been saddled with the nickname.

Only in the last six months when Wolves began to surge clear at the top of the Championship.

Ever since then he's been waiting for the bubble to burst in an 'I-told-you-it-wouldn't-last' type of way.

So each match that is not accompanied by a three-point haul is met with a raise of the eyebrows and a puff of the cheeks.

It doesn't matter to Miserable Dave that footballing logic dictates that very few teams outside of the affluent elite have the ability to go through a season without a blip along the way.

No. He knew it wasn't going to last and he's told you so.

It's an understandable reaction.

You see, seven years ago Wolves were in a similar position, cruising towards the Premier League for the first time when the wheels began to fall off.

At first, it happened so slowly that you didn't notice it.

I was actually there at Molineux on a sunny Spring afternoon when they lost 1-0 to Grimsby Town in a match they were expected to win comfortably.

There was none of this masochistic streak back then.

It was more a case of: 'Oh dear.' The overwhelming feeling was that Dave Jones' team had accrued so many points that surely it was a case of when, not if, they were going to stroll across the finishing line.

Only Gary Megson's West Brom had other ideas. You see, they kept winning and narrowed the gap until on the final day of the season, they clinched promotion at Wolves' expense.

It was horrible for Wolves. It is the the thought of going through that hurt again that has made Dave miserable.

Dave doesn't want to see the prize dangled before him for nine months, and then taken away at the last minute once again.

That's understandable.

But by the same token, if you'd said to him at the start of the season - and don't forget the bookmakers had made Birmingham City and Reading favourites for promotion - that Wolves would be six points clear of the third-placed side with about one-third of the campaign left to play, then he would have been happy enough.

What's the difference?

It's the expectation that is slowly eviscerating Wolves' fans. That gut-wrenching feeling that it is happening all over again.

But it's not. The situation is totally different. West Brom aren't there for a start.

There's a different manager and a young group of players that want to progress together.

It would be a shame if Molineux becomes gripped in the kind of fear that appears to be dogging 'Miserable Dave'.

And that's because the best way to garner these last nine victories would be to try and allow Mick McCarthy's players to relax.

There was a joy during the first couple of months of the season when the team was playing with freedom.

They had different angles of attack and were a real handful, let me tell you.

Hopefully, the addition of Christophe Berra will plug a gap in the home defence that has never been truly convincing since the Paul Butler/Joleon Lescott partnership was broken up.

But please Wolves' fans, don't fill Molineux with apprehension. It won't help. Honestly.

In the end it will all be worth it.

For the big grin on Dave's face, if nothing else.

That's not the only time they f*cked up a promotion charge to the Premiership. Remember our late late 2-1 win over them at Elm Park? After that they fell into the play-offs as Barnsley finished ahead of them.....

Before the start of the season, the bookies favorites were neither Reading or Brum; it was QPR.

Well, that's two out of three down. FWIW next week's game against Cardiff could be pivotal to their season. I'm hoping for a draw personally.

Based on performances and bias alone for this season, I'd love to see Reading, Swansea and Cardiff all get promoted this season.

Snowball Tomorrow they are away to Coventry, a derby game, certainly not easy

Then away to Burnley Then home to Cardiff

Coventry beat Wolves, no way.
Burnley beat Wolves, no way...

Next week's result v Cardiff is a win-win even if a draw.
