Not us, but Burnley last year. Relax, kids. We won't know anything about Rodgers for a month or so yet.

Yes but getting 4 results in 2 games is quite impressive

Although Burnley had a much more experienced squad so were able to scrap their way out of trouble.

Results and the form book don't lie.

I will take 21st place now and see that as a big challenge.

This also represents our worst start to the season since.....1997/98, when we were relegated from this division in last place :| .

I am not sure whether the HNA message board was in operation back then, but no doubt people were telling us all that there was no need to panic; young new manager, a new era, top performers long since sold off.....

in 1997/8 we were a lot worse than we are now - absolutely terrible. We got done by at least three for several weeks in a row and had no shape whatsover. After ten games, it was clear we were crap. That's when we should have pulled the trigger, and didn't.

By contrast, in 2007/8 everyone was talking about how well we had done after a tough start. Rushing to jusgment then, like many would now, would suggest 8th was on again.

I believe we are going to get gradually better all season. Whether you agree or not, anyone who claims to know whether this project is going to work or not after four games is an idiot.

Maybe it's me, but I'd never expected us to start so badly that I immediately thought of the last time we had a bad start, and I think Tommy Burns' first full season saw us start badly too. Then again the 1998/9 season had us starting our first 3/4 games away from home.

Given that the Hob Nob centre-of-mass-of-opinion has got it wrong the last two seasons, I'm hoping for a hattrick.

I think it was Platypus who, around Xmas, pointed out that 07/08 felt like 97/98. Yes, we were doing alright - this would have been after the Liverpool win, mebbe the West Ham away draw - but there was something unsettling about the run of fixtures after Xmas and the fragility of the squad.

A bad run of form in Jan-Feb-March and we'd find ourselves in a relegation scrap we really didn't have the spine for.

This season? I'm a bit surprised we've been so blunt up front. Perhaps I should stop looking at Long and thinking - maybe he'll make it as a starting striker. We clearly need a few old heads down the spine of the side. We were never going to keep Doyle, Hunt et al and Murty and Duberry have started their slide down the leagues but a central midfielder, a quality winger and an experienced, wily striker could improve the squad to no end.

I think I'm also going to start really writing Long off as nothing more than the impact sub of the side. 3 games, 200 + minutes of football and barely a shot on target to his name. He's simply not good enough to lead the line in both sense of the word - let him come on for 20 minutes and torment tired defenders. Please.

It's also not really worth looking at until 10 games have been played.

Awful start. Toothless upfront, very disappointing transfer business in that we have tenaciously stuck with one player we wanted for almost 3 months now, if not longer, without getting him so far. We haven't looked ready enough for Rodger's system really.

I think in hindsight we'd have been better off working on that in training and blooding the youngsters in a 4-4-2 which might have given us a little more bite. Then transfering across.

Early days still, and if we can get a win in the next game we hit my points target for the first 5 games. Once that win comes, if it comes with a decent performance we may see things click a little more.
