I can't remember any signing being so univerally welcomed before.

Closest (and still a long way off) I can think of is Cureton.
Any advance on that ?

Brilliant news - makes me like football again after the England disaster. He was perfect last season.

One day after buying my season ticket, he signs: it was clearly my money going into the club's coffers that meant he could be bought.

Re other popular signings, I was made-up when Scott Murray signed and I don't think I was alone. Still sad that one never worked out.

I was more pleased about Goater, which turned out marginally better.

I thought he was the last piece in the jigsaw and that great things would come from us.

Let it be a reminder to everyone that players are real people - if someone doesn't settle things won't work out, no matter how good they seem on paper (or computer screen.)

who was the last player to sign permanently after a loan period at the club? i honestly cant remember, the only player who i can think of that was here on loan that the fans really wanted was Tommy Wright and we didn't sign him

ZacNaloen I always thought this was likely to happen after he brought his kids out for the lap of honour. Good news all round.

Those were exactly my thoughts at the time.
We now have a proper engine room down the right hand side. It is his visible commitment to the cause on the pitch I like the most about him. Great signing.

Welcome to civilisation, Mr Griffin.

I'm glad he said the fans were behind his decision. We beat ourselves up as fans, but, in our way, we are powerful fans. Griffin could certainly have picked up a club near his preferred north, but the fact that he came to us is a coup. All credit to McDermott for thinking of getting him on loan in the first place. Griffin's signature is also a credit to McDermott becuse old dogs don't want to play for bad managers: this is a sign that Griffin thinks we can go places.

Stefan Andre Bikey was the last player we had on loan that we then made permanent.
