Reading v Wolverhampton Wanderers

by Z175 » 27 Jul 2010 11:10

Team

Federici
Williams
Mills
Pearce
Griffin
Tabb
Gunnarsson
Sigurdsson
McAnuff
Kebe
Long

Bench - Alex "Mick" McCarthy, Jake "Graham" Taylor, Brian Howard "Wilkinson", Michail "jose" Antonio "Camacho", Hal "Sir Bobby" Robson-Kanu, Noel "Roger" Hunt, Simon "Charlotte" Church and Jem "Professional Footballer" Karacan

Nice to see the 4-5-1 again, interesting to see Gunnarsson get in there ahead of the slightly more mobile Howard. The presence of only 4 recognised defenders in the squad is an obvious issue, surely.

It will be good see Doyle again, albeit sad to see him in a Wolves shirt. He should murder Pearcey, but I think we'll have too much going forward.

2-1 Royals

I'm in! - any attendance predictions? I'm going for 5,000

I just don't understand trainspotters. I get them at the bridge at the top of my road. In the last 7 days I've seen 13 of them, 4 in blue anoraks and 5 in brown. That makes brown ahead by 5.3% this calendar year so far. Nutters.

Only East and Lower West open this evening. Depends how many knuckle-draggers from the West Midlands decide to make the journey.

Apart from Doyle and Stearman, I genuinly think we have a stronger team on paper than Wolves. So I'd expect us to win tonight!!

Good spot. I wonder why no Marcus? Seems a bit cruel on him and us! Big applause for Doyle I'm sure.

Slight knock - not going to be risked, according to their OS. Also worth looking at the Wolves website for long interview with Doyler about tonight's game...

It takes Graham that long to approve the account...

I had to hound him for months to get mine approved... really should change that!

Z175 Nice to see the 4-5-1 again

Not sure I agree with that sentiment, Long particularly isn't a good enough player to succeed on his own up front. We had some success with Church as the lone striker in a 4-5-1 after xmas but long term I don't think we have the quality of forward to make this system work.

The reason I am pleased is I see Sigurdsson, Kebe and McAnuff as thriving in the 4-5-1. Getting the best out of those 3 is in my opinion the most likely way for us to be successful. I see these three as better than any other team's combination at this level - whereas a paring of 2 of Long, Church, Rasiak and N Hunt would not be great enough to justify shackling the midfield trio with defensive responsibilities.

451 can lead to a scoring problem, as you just don't have the extra man in the box, but I think the players are now used to it. We will have these three plus Howard supporting the striker so I don't think it matters if that Strikers himself is not brilliant.

You're right that we won't have a forward with the classic lone striker qualities, but they have pace, desire and workrate which could be enough at this level. Personally I though Long linked up best - some great lay offs in front of Kebe etc but Church perhaps has a higher work rate and seems to be destined to improve enough to be a great player.

Frankly I think either of them can do the job while relying on the "best midfield in the league" to make it easy for them.

Only got my password today. Tried loads of times to open my account but it did not allow me to. Everything comes to those that wait!
I am a trainspotter from the real days of steam when forwards could barge gaolkeepers over the line and not get punished!
There were platform tickets at 1d a time and there were real trains! You could also change enda at half time at Elm Park and there was the smell of smoking in the air. Some of you haven't lived!!
