Membership 06/07

by STAR Voice » 23 Jun 2006 12:56

Just to clarify for everyone what the membership process will be this year.

Ways to join STAR :

There are now 4 ways to join STAR

1. Via the Season Ticket renewal form from the club. If you have selected this option please ignore the below 3 options - you have joined STAR, and your membership details will be processed as soon as when we receive the details from the club, which we have been promised will be in next week.

2. Via the STAR renewal form. This was sent to all last years' members this week.

3. Via the STAR Membership Form on our website. http://www.star-reading.org/membership_form.htm. Fill this form in and follow the instructions on where to send it.

4. Via the FSF Website http://www.fsf.org.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=20 This option is primarily designed for exiles - we need to pay credit card processing fees on members joining this way. If you can join via one of the three previous options it costs us less, so we'd prefer that.

Timetable :
However you've joined, we will be processing membership applications from the start of our membership year, which is the beginning of July. Membership packs, including membership cards, will be sent out in a mailing around the middle of July - so please don't panic if you don't receive anything from us until the 3rd week of July.

Yes - because we're an Industrial & Provident Society the rules on who can legally hold a share and a vote in the Society are fixed - and the break point for this is at age 18.

According to the e-mail STAR send to members last week, it was the third week of July yesterday evening - they were looking for people to help them send out membership cards.

At least I can say they are all in the temprorary safe-keeping of the post office now as thanks to about 20 volunteers we compiled over 2000 membership packs last night. Many thanks to those who came to help otherwise it may have been the 3rd week in August before they went out if it was left to just the one person responsible.

Got mine too. A plastic card this year and I notice that the serial number on the card matches the serial numbers on the 2 vouchers which are for a pen plus car sticker and 10% off at the megastore.

It must have been a steady hand that wrote out all those names on cards.

Sorry about that - with over 2000 there were bound to be mistakes. If you want bring the card in when you come for your pen and car sticker and we will see if we can sort it.
