According to the internet there is no trains on the Friday either, despite the strike being the Saturday?!

Didn't have you down as a reader of the small print John. "Can you" absolutely, "are you allowed to", perhaps not.

I don't do much coach travel these days but the rulebook back then was you'd wait until the coach is on the motorway before cracking open a tin, as it's much harder for the driver to pull over and call you out at that point. And much less likely they'll bother.
