Huddersfield (A) Saturday 8th February

by Royals and Racers » 12 Jan 2025 13:53

With our defeat in the FA Cup yesterday this match is now ok to be played on the scheduled date.
Just a early heads up to anyone going by train to Huddersfield. Engineering works that weekend means no trains in or out of Huddersfield.
Replacement bus's from various stations have been scheduled.
I am going Cross Country train from Reading direct to Stockport( Manchester train) and getting the rail replacement bus from there to Huddersfield.
Same in reverse for the return journey.

On a related note, National Rail are having a sale from midnight tonight so might be some cheap train tickets for this match or Wigan.

On a related note, Magic Rock Brewing is well worth a visit. 20 minutes walk from the ground, superb beer choice, street food and nice mix of fans.

If its doing the equivalent of the Huddersfield line and stopping at the towns going through the moors, that could be a delight.

Huddersfield itself is an odd place, really quite small. Quite a lot of work done putting a dirty great big ring road around it but much of the old architecture remains.

Two pubs by station, Harold Wilson statue, home of Rugby League.

Inx3 for this, the rail replacement actually doesn't hinder us too much as goes direct from Stockport to Hudds so no need to go in and out of Manchester.

Pubs right next to the station are decent.

In a previous life, I was external examiner at Huddersfield, so spent quite a bit of time there.

Yeah, stick to pubs by station. There's a solid one or two down by the University but that's not the right direction for the ground.
