Stadium renaming

by Royal Bison » 26 Sep 2014 13:38

(apologies if this has been posted elsewhere)
It looks like it won't be long before the stadium has a different name, any thoughts? Or will it always be the Madejski Stadium to Reading fans ?

It's a shame as I'd like all the work SJM did to be remembered for many years to come and also it's probably going to sound stupid

Wouldn't like to it be Something Arena.

Don't like the word Arena.

What about The Something Madjeski Stadium?

Totally agree with this. It's the Mad Stad and that's what it should stay as.

Not really a dome though as there is no roof covering the entire square footage.

I'd guessthe new name will be chosen by someone who pays a lot of cash for the honour. What we might chsoe will be irrelevant.
But I always think of it as New Elm Park.

No reason it can't if he's prepared to pay the going commercial rate for it. The moment the numerous blackholes opened up the naming rights should have been sold off to the highest bidder. And why would JM mind? Afterall it wasn't his idea to name the stadium after him in the first place!

And this old chestnut again.

It's not so much that he didn't want to name it after himself more that he didn't want to pay for it. There was a significant amount of money set aside in the budget for the building of the stadium for "Naming Rights". Amazingly given how people seem to think JM was just one of dozens of businesses queueing up to invest in Reading FC at the time, no one stumped up the money thereby leaving JM to cover it himself.

Again, there is no roof covering the entire stadium so would not be a dome
