Catering outside Stadium

by Lower West » 11 Aug 2021 14:30

Shockingingly bad. Overpriced doesn't even come close to describing last night's offering. Avoid at all costs. Get something on the way to the ground or bring it with you.

Deserves a boycott. To get these rip off merchants kicked in touch.

That’s not good to hear. Sounds like the club have reverted to the dreadful burger vans where the food was disgusting.

Yeah not good. There is only going to be one way this will change and that is for the vast majority of people not buying food at the ground.

Quick Q - were West Berkshire Brewery still there? Hope so.

Yes, thankfully, a pint of Good Old Boy was just what I needed having seen the lineup.

Why was there no food/drink outlet outside 1871 last night?
Caged in on both sides, by away fans on one side and East Stand on other, both of whom looked to have drinks and food outside ,
1871 with large queues inside had bugger all out doors!

Can this be rectified please?

Ta muchly!

I'd probably drop an e-mail to the club, rather posting on here!

Worth discussing if nothing else to keep people informed.

Absolutely world class posting.

I must echo the sentiments of the food. I don't normally buy it but didn't have time for dinner and purchased a burger. It was dog food and was discarded 1/3 into consumption. £6.

Will the internal food outlets open up for league games going forward? I presume they were only shut for Palace and Swans due to low crowds?

Why did the club get rid of Blue Collar again? Was incredible. The only time I've ever bought anything other than beer at the stadium.

Plenty of good food on offer Broad Street on Saturday pre game. Blue Collar finest. Double Barreled with the beer!

Just a little stroll to the ground thereafter

Love to see the economic consequences of that!

And why the hell do they still have a catering contract with an organisation that can only muster an appalling 1 on Food Hygiene ratings? You have to work really hard to achieve a rating that poor! Rather than allowing that organisation to moan about the success of others, it should've been sufficient reason to kick it out.

If Food Hygiene/Safety isn't explicitly covered by the current contracts, it should certainly be included in all future iterations IMO.

Oh no, ridiculous. That was one of the best non football decisions the club made when they got decent caterers in on the outside. Guess the fleabag compass caterers complained, I mean they serve dreadful food

cooked to death pretty terrible Pukka pies,

god awful rollover hot dogs, you can get far better hot dogs, which is just about ok, in Costco for £1.50 including a large soft drink. Those rollover hot dogs are so bad, you know they aren’t stored in fridges, they sell them in Costco in sealed packs outside fridges!

Extortionate crisp and chocolate

No imagination. Boring, convenient for them, food

They employ the slowest people on the planet so it’s pointless trying to get a beer at half time. You’d think in all these years they’d have looked at reducing the queues. Why did they stop the backpack beer people, that was a good idea.

They should have vending machines for crisps and chocolate.

I emailed the club at the time of the decision and the response was computer says no.

I suspect Compass got the arse when their sales went down because of the quality outside and then got the lawyers on the case to put a gun to the club’s head.

Really sad as it was a great differentiator for the club and touched on the heartstrings of local provenance and quality that appeals to many fans.

It is indeed.

Food Standards Agency definitions are :

5. Hygiene standards are very good
4. Hygiene standards are good
3. Hygiene standards are generally satisfactory
2. Some improvement is necessary
1. Major improvement is necessary
0. Urgent improvement is required

From what I recall a score of 1 also means the inspector also has little confidence in the current management of the catering establishment.

We once made the mistake of eating at a Lebanese restaurant in Bristol which hadn't displayed its 'Score on the Door' (it had 1 at the time) and soon realised why, as we watched a mouse happily running between the tables and right across the path of a waitress who seemed to regard it as an everyday occurrence. And no, it wasn't a hamster!

I certainly wouldn't buy food from a caterer that scores so low and I don't really understand why the club didn't use the rating to justify a red card for Compass.
