Football Buses

by PATRIQT » 23 Nov 2021 17:00

Is there a football bus that runs down Berkeley Avenue?

Apart from the obvious reasons for not wanting to live in Coley, it's location is crap, and football is either long walk, or 2 buses each way. I'm hoping I can grab a football bus and half the messing about?

I mean, yeah, just walk it. By the time the bus has crawled through the traffic is it really worth it?

The Network zone fares look the same as last season, FWIW.

Feel free to correct me but it looks like a single matchday return is now £7,50 and a single £5.50. It was £5.50 return a game last year. It is now £5.50 for U19 return. So for me a increase of £2 per match for me from £5,50. That is a pretty hefty increase.

Club has stopped subsidising the football busses due to being skint.

That's a massive increase, makes you realise how much the club must have been forking out (or Reading Buses are taking the piss)

Don't know why the government funded £2 to anywhere single doesn't apply for the football buses?

Government website actually states as part of it's waffle on the bus fare funding

To help people with cost of living pressures and save on everyday travel costs, the government will also provide up to £200 million to continue capping single bus fares at £2 outside London until the end of October 2023 and then at £2.50 until 30 November 2024 – when the government will review their effectiveness and future bus fares.

Because it's a football special type service there's more than likely bound to be some small print that specifically excludes these fares but someone should push back on this and at least ask about it.

Nothing to stop you getting the £2 single or £3.50 Reading All-Bus all dayer and using the standard 5/6 or Greenwave 50 services which get you pretty close to the SCL. Greenwave Brook Drive stop is only a stone's throw from the F1 stop. And for £5.50 4 people can use the All-Bus ticket for Saturday games.

Out of interest, how does that compare to parking your car at the stadium?

Your coming from outside Reading aren't you? so is going to Green Park an option, is is included in "Reading Stations" so no extra cost on a train ticket.

Went again via Green Park last night and I’m surprised how busy it is going back into Reading, but mainly with away fans. Last night must have been close to 100 or so.
