The end of the Spain we knew. :(

Hats off to Chile. The last group match will now be a nail biter for me. Don't want to face Brazil in the next round.

Total neutral watching the game but I can't help feeling for Spain.

Casillas in awful form, the whole team screwed up.

Fair play to Chile, but it still doesn't explain why they have such a silly shaped country.

That was as funny as Robbie Savage's reaction to Tim Cahill's goal this afternoon

End of an era? Maybe not. France were shit in 2002 but came back to reach the final in 2006.

I do think Sandman has a point, it'a the end for this particular team but there is another waiting in the wings. Spain will be one of the teams to beat in 2016 and 2018 but that withstanding, they have been woeful at the back, lacking creativity and drive in midfield and utter dogshit up front in Brazil.

I think Chile have been a breath of fresh air. Not the one of the best teams around but they play to their strengths and play on the front foot, looking to create chances.

I watched this in a bar in Gibraltar....fair to say the crowd were somewhat partisan. Fireworks at FT.
Even greater celebrations than on the Friday defeat to Holland.

Fully expect 3 hour queues to be the norm at the frontier for the rest of the tournament.

Casillas was dreadful, he has played his last international for sure.

Given that he's the captain, I think he'll play in the match against Aussie.

He'll then, probably, retire from international football.

sandman Don't know what's sadder, the best international team I have ever seen go out like that or how many of you are revelling in it.

It's a shame. Their time has come and gone and that wonderful team is finished now. As a great man once said, we move on.

But I too find it bizarre that there appear to be many many football fans unable to appreciate the best international team I've ever seen.

Would rather watch Chile all day long personally

Football moved on, and Spain didn't

Agreed.

Spain as a team bore me to tears and delighted they are out.

'greed. Not sure why people are calling it the "end of an era". They were just knocked out of a tournament by better teams.

Errrr...

If you were the best team in the world and you get "knocked out of a tournament by better teams", that's, pretty much, the definition of "end of an era" I'd say.

Because people love a sensationalist headline and the hyperbole tends to get out of control following stuff like this.

The team that won the last two European Championships and are reigning World Champions, just got knocked out of the World Cup after less than a week, I'd say that signifies an end of an era.

I have nothing against Spain or Spanish people per se. But the attitude they hold that they are the only ones playing the game the way it should be played, a "beautiful game", is so full of itself, almost as much as they are full of themselves, that I can't help be anything but happy their arrogance just got kicked squarely in the nuts. Football should be played with passion and not just be an exercise in geometry.
