URZZZZ Royal Rother URZZZZ This philosophy, of course, taking us to a semi final and final after years and years of failures in major tournaments. How awful
There’s one.
I’m not particularly a Southgate apologist. It is undoubtedly a cautious and stifling way of playing
But he’s very much under appreciated for the work he’s done here. It is, after all, a results business and his record in major tournaments has been very good. And I’d also argue football would be dull if every team played the same style
Fully agree re Southgate. I have in the past always prefaced my negatives about him by saying I think he’s a great guy with integrity, honesty and moral standards and excellent man management skills.
I just think he’s lacks something even more important. The above standards are vital in management in any sphere but in football you also need to recognise what is happening on the pitch, and what will happen with all different combinations. I might be conveniently forgetting something but I can’t think of an occasion when his mid-game changes have actually made a positive difference.
I don’t think he’s got that quality and vision and hence will always fall short.
But I also acknowledge that he’s a football man and I’m not. But if we just let them all get on with it without expressing our views (because they know better - or damn well should do) it’d be a bit boring.
I also recognise that you are not criticising me for expressing mine!
