Seal
Jerry St Clair
Seal 10 years ago people moaned about the big 3

Then it was the dominance of the big 4

Even Dirk is now talking about a big 5 (which I assume doesn't even include 4th place Spurs)

When I were a lad, it was the big 5. Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton, Spurs.

BUT, that didn't mean that those teams finished in the top 5. Off the top of my head I can recall West Ham finishing 3rd, Ipswich finishing 2nd, Southampton finishing 2nd. I also recall Norwich finishing high up in the late 80s and Palace finishing in the top 4 under Coppell.

True, none of them won it, but that's a much healthy state of competition, by any measure.

Thanks for that. Was the same when I was a lad. However Dirk specifically said: "the title will be won by one of the big 5 - or realistically just 2 of them". Therefore referred to a 'current' big 5 rather than the 80s version.

I'm still seeing lots of moaning. You people are all criticism and no solutions. Glad I don't work with any you. It's like dealing with my obtuse IT support guy.

Stop giving the clubs at the the top, those who have an advantage anyway, extra cash to keep them there.

TV money, or the distribution of it, is what causes most problems.

The Champions League, for example, hands out free multimillion bonus payments to clubs from countries who generate high tv revenue, regardless of how they perform in the competition. The champions league group stage was invented to make it much harder for the bigger clubs to fall victim to a shock defeat. It's all about creating a perpetual elite that will bring in the highest tv revenues.

Zatley. It will culminate in an elite league, driven by pay per view.

Agreed.

The sooner they do it, the better. Than clubs like ours can focus on football rather than business and we can then see exciting, competive football at a reasonable price.

3 games this weekend have finished 6-0

If 3 SPL games had finished 6-0 all the SPL knockers would be on telling us how bad it was

That's because, in a two horse race, it is impossible for a third team to exist.

Newcastle (a team promoted last season) 6 Aston Villa (a team in the Europa League) 0
Fulham 2 Man Utd 2

Hibs 0 Rangers 3
Celtic 4 St Mirren 0

Which set of results from today was the more predictable?

I'm not sure many of us care any more about the Scottish league than we do about the Macedonian, Lithuanian or Icelandic leagues.

Just carry on playing but don't get us involved, and don't try and sneak into our league just for the money....

Yep - give you that one.

As Dirk said earlier in the thread, there are going to be unpredictable results within the mini-leagues of each Division, but the fact still remains, that whilst either Man Utd or Chelsea are the MOST LIKELY winners of the EPL, either Celitic or Rangers WILL win the SPL.

I thought I would check the odds;

EPL - outright winners:

Chelsea - 5/4
Man Utd - 5/2
Arsenal - 5/1
Man City - 9/1
Liverpool - 14/1
Spurs - 28/1

SPL

Celtic - 4/6
Rangers - 6/5
Dundee Utd - 66/1

Mr Angry Liverpool - 14/1
Spurs - 28/1

although I totally agree these two figures make it a little odd to use odds as proof of anything

Twice as many teams in the EPL as the SPL; it was worth showing the top 6 proces for EPL as a comparison for the top 3 prices in SPL.

28/1 are still far better odds than 66/1!!

Also shows there are more suckers willing to through their money behind their team to win the league despite it simply not going to happen.
