TBM On again today

Finally, we may get other teams :)

Leeds officials have stopped Sky TV from entering Elland Road in a bid to stop them screening Tuesday night's Championship game against Derby.

It is the ninth time a Leeds league match has been picked for live coverage and it is set to kick off at 19:45 GMT.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino told staff to ban the cameras as he feels the team feature on TV too often, causing a negative effect on attendances.

Good for Massimo, must say it's wonderful to see someone stand up to the prats at SKY despite the money they may lose as a result.

What's the betting the FL turn around and tell them to let SKY in or they'll face sanctions from them

Surely that's 100% guaranteed?

Isn't it surely part of the league rules to comply with TV rights? Otherwise you'd have clubs all over the country refusing to kick off at 12pm and saying they refuse, or like Leeds just refusing all TV coverage

The £250,000 or so they get per tv apperance clearly not needed then. He really is a dipstick!

Really? More like Leeds are doing ok, Evans doing ok so no reason to sack him yet, so good old Massimo hasn't hadn't been the centre of attention for a month or so. This puts him slap bang centre again. Thought he was banned from running the club again at the moment?

Agreed. Leeds are an absolute abomination of a side, they make Reading look like Rinus Michels Holland side by comparison. Leeds undoubtedly have a reasonably substantial national and international fanbase - sadly and implausibly so given the questionable behaviour of their supporters iver the years and considering that their city is a backwater northern non-entity of a place which cannot remotely compare to Manchester, Liverpool or Newcastle in terms of vibrancy and industry - but it is not atypical of Sky to greedily look purely at viewing figures rather than allocate fixtures more fairly. One in the eye for the ostriches at the Football League too.

You are aware that Sky are a subscription based media company and not a charity? Blame the FL for the TV rights contract they signed not Sky for sticking to it.

Leeds Leeds United have reluctantly allowed Sky cameras into Elland Road to broadcast tonight's fixture against Derby County.

Leeds United have noted that the majority of press reports on the matter have quite rightly appreciated that the club's issues with the Football League relate in part to the entirely disproportionate number of times Sky have selected the club for live transmission.

It is not just the number of times the club has been selected, but the fact the adjoining fixtures are also then disrupted which adversely affects the players, the club's logistical arrangements and the fans' arrangements. It is clear to the club that its key supporters, the Season Ticket holders, have also had enough of this constant alteration, often at short notice, to the fixture list to accommodate Sky.

Leeds United were required to play Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday December 17 followed by Preston North End at home on Sunday December 20, followed by Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening and then Derby County tonight .

Recent good results have been achieved despite the alterations to the fixture list, but at great cost to the players' fitness and a substantial injury list .The festive plans of supporters have also been entirely ruined by Sky's live TV selections.

The league, despite the club having challenged them through the appropriate legal routes, continue to try and alter our schedule by insisting fixtures are changed to suit Sky, including Brighton & Hove Albion away from a Saturday to a Monday in February.

Given Sky are to show 92 live games this season, a fair allocation would be four home games per club - so the selection by Sky is clearly unfair and the league are allowing this .

The Football League regulations are supposed to be there to protect the integrity of the sporting competition, not to be used as a stick to beat the club on behalf of Sky.

Leeds United Season Ticket holders have had enough of these fixture changes, the players and staff have had enough, and Leeds United Football Club has had enough .

It is to be noted that the League threaten a disrepute charge against the club. It is the League who are bringing their own competition into disrepute by unfairly prejudicing Leeds (and certain other clubs) by allowing Sky to unfairly disrupt Leeds United for their own commercial purposes.

Rubbish club....but fair play to them. I would rather watch Rotherham vs Huddersfield than them.

Not a lover of $ky nor a lot of what it brings, but am a lover of 3pm Saturday kick offs......so on this occasion, well done Leeds. Back to my days as a STH, the frequent ($ky induced) changes to the original fixture list played a significant part (not to mention the games I had to miss) in my decision to not renew. Small fry in the grander picture but a casuality just the same.

Makes sense that the clubs should be able to have some say on games they make available for broadcast and that there is a reasonable maximum appearances and not just a minimum.

Fair play to Leeds for at least pretending to make a stand (obviously it was never going to prevent the game being broadcast).

Shame they didn't have the courage to stand their ground and then fight the disrepute charge.

Leeds- expulsion looms ?

by Nameless » 15 Feb 2016 07:11

So Leeds are only playing tonight because a league injunction is forcing them to.
Cellino has another injunction pending trying to destroy the collective TV agreement.
And Cellino has lied about why Leeds were refusing to play tonight. He claims it is because the fixture was switched at short notice whereas in fact it was switched in December but due to Cellino's legal challenge it couldn't be confirmed.
Time to tell Leeds that if they don't want to be part of the league then they can go play elsewhere ?
They have a loyal set of fans, but frankly as a club they are a disgrace and it would be appropriate if they played in a league of their own.
They'd probably still find a way to not win it though....

So is this all just him trying to be able to negotiate a TV deal separately to maximise his revenue?

He's a tunc, isn't he.
