Tom Rogic

by leww_rfc » 18 May 2012 13:25

19 year old Australian footballer in the A-league, bit of a scout but definitely worth a shout.

Won the A-league with Central Coast Mariners.

CAM - one to watch.

Heard from a completely different 'source' (just an aussie leeds fan I know, not trying to be ITK here) that we're back in talks about this as we believe his work permit situation has improved...

i dont know much about the a league, i dont imagine that it is a very strong league, i bet its lower than the league of ireland where we seem to find most of our unearthed gems. there could always be a big fish in a small pond and rogic could be that player, but i wouldnt want him without hearing more about him.

I would put it in between league 2 and League 1.

I watched the League 2 play off finals, and the standard of play is generally better than that.

Rings a bell. I'm sure we had him on trial a while ago.

Same situation as Sunzo - we couldn't get a work permit. We're being linked with everyone again.

More in the Aussie press

Young gun Tom Rogic set for overseas gig by: Ray Gatt From: The Australian December 30, 2012 11:28PM

THE A-League is on the verge of losing one of its best young talents with news that Central Coast and Socceroos midfielder Tom Rogic is expected to head overseas in the next few weeks.
Rogic, 20, has been linked with English Premier League club Reading, who is known to have been keeping a close eye on his development for almost six months while there are suggestions Italian Serie B club Ascoli is also believed to have shown interest.

The attacking midfielder shot to prominence 12 months ago when he made his debut for the Mariners in a round 18 match against Adelaide United last season and has gone from strength to strength.

The Canberra born and raised Rogic recently made his Socceroos debut when he came on as a substitute in a friendly against South Korea two months ago and has been tipped as a future superstar of Australian soccer.

He was embroiled in controversy last week when he was sent off in the dying minutes against Sydney FC for a rugged challenge on Rhyan Grant. He was subsequently suspended for three weeks.

...Sources close to Rogic indicated his treatment and suspension will play a role in his decision to leave the A-League.

Rogic's departure overseas would be a huge blow to the Mariners, who are leading the competition. He would be impossible to replace at this stage of the season.

Losing players at this stage of the season is nothing new for Central Coast. The club lost striker Matt Simon and Rostyn Griffiths midway through last season, though the Mariners still managed to make the preliminary final.

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/113 ... c-interest

NH “We’ll talk to the Mariners and take it from there,” said Hammond. “We’ve been monitoring Tom closely for the past year or so and were really disappointed when we couldn’t sign him because of those work permit issues.

“He’s been doing really well and is a smashing lad. I have no doubt he has the potential to play in the Premier League.

“When we first tried to sign him (on a three-year deal) we were in the Championship but our opinion of him has only got higher as we have watched him continue to excel for the Mariners, who are a great club.

“I can’t say whether something will happen in January but it’s not impossible. That said he is (under contract) with another club who we have great respect for and we will just have to wait and see whether anything comes of it.”

After extensive Youtube scouting i have decided that it would be foolish not to sign him up. look forward to seeing this guy come the end of January!
