We want Norwich to go up?

by tidus_mi2 » 25 May 2015 13:37

Just been thinking, with finances as limited as they are, is it perhaps in our best interest that Norwich get promoted? That way their parachute payments are re-distributed back into the League and from what I've seen that is £33m shared amongst 24 teams, so that's just over £1m for each team, doesn't seem like much but when we're penny pinching, every little helps.

No doubt we'll piss it away on average league two rubbish or spunk it on a 40 year old from the Belarus 4th division

Is that what happens with the parachute payments? Quite surprised - I would have thought the PL would take the opportunity to grab back the money for their teams (or themselves).

It certainly used to be shared round the Championship from what I remember. Like just over £1m makes the blindest bit of difference to a Premier League club. That's about a fortieth of the lowest wage bill.

I've never read anything that says it's shared around the championship. Anyone got a link?

Would have assumed if they did that it would be the whole football league?

Pretty sure the rules used to be the money stayed in the Champ if a side bounced back whilst still receiving parachute payments. Alas a rule change seems to have been sneaked through.

Taken from a blog from Adam Hurrey, a fairly knowledgeable football writer with the Guardian

"They (Norwich City) join Bournemouth and Watford in the 2015/16 top flight and - I know you're all thinking about it - their parachute payments will come up with them to be redistributed among the 20 clubs."

So Chelsea get an additional £1m to pay Hazard, Costa and a couple of other overpaid "stars" a week's salary, marvellous...

We'll have to make do with another 4 points off Boro then....

Good point, plus their fans are far more deserving than Boro's. Good club, great support!

Money grabbing club, very good support. There is no place for £35 ticket prices in the Championship. For that reason, good riddance, which is a shame because the awayday is BRILLIANT.

The Indy also reports that this [redistribution of parachute payments amongst Championship clubs] isn't the case anymore. The premiership now keeps the dosh and redistributes it amongst its clubs.

Wow, if that's the case then it's a bit ludicrous, what's another million to Premier League clubs?

I knew the PL forced through the lentherning of parachute payments by saying taking it or have none, but this as well? If i was the FL club chairmen I'd tell them to stick it and delight in every (unusual) occasion an established club slips up and instantly goes bust. Even if it meant no chance of competing on promotion.
