Chapacoense.

by From Despair To Where? » 29 Nov 2016 19:17

Not seen anything about this any where else on here but not a lot to say really other than desperately sad news.

In a sport so wrapped in hyperbole a missed penalty is described as a disaster, this puts it all in perspective.

R.I.P.

Has been scantly mentioned elsewhere, but nonetheless a worthy thread.

Their (would've been) opponents, Atletico Nacional want Chapacoense to be awarded the cup.
Meanwhile, several rival clubs are offering to loan them players to complete it.

Nice touches

Surprisingly (given the modern day animosity).....and unknown to me .......at least until reading it today

Liverpool offered to loan players to Man U following the 1958 Munich air crash

Only 6 survivors from 77 on board of which 3 are players and of those 3 one has had his right leg amputated, another is is a very serious condition and the third has a spinal injury.

Such a very sad and upsetting event to happen to one of the very bright stories that there was in Brazilian football.

Amazing to think that 6 people survived, let alone 2 surviving without injury.

Winston Smith

I'm glad somebody was around with a camera to capture this touching moment of grief.

Brazilian & Columbian media apparently saying the crash was because the plane ran out of fuel.

Emerging that the holding pattern adopted by the pilot was as he desperately sought permission to land as his fuel ran out. :(

The flight technician who survived said he had luggage between his legs and braced for impact. Said many others on the plane were standing up shouting.

It's kind of obvious that it wouldn't be a scene of everyone bracing for impact and keeping quiet etc but it just paints such a distressing picture.

Still, at least we'll get an Air Crash Investigation episode out of it.

...meanwhile the controller was telling him to keep flying as another aircraft had mechanical difficulties and had priority.

They should have had a refuelling stop on the way, but the airport had shut because it was night.
Aviation Safety Net The airline's general director reported in local media that the initial plans were for LAMIA to fly the football team from São Paulo, Brazil to Medellin with a refueling stop at Cobija in northern Bolivia. LAMIA requested a permit to fly from the Brazilian aviation authorities, ANAC, but this was denied as there were no provisions in the current aviation agreements between Brazil and Bolivia to allow this. The Chapecoense team was then flown to Santa Cruz in Bolivia on a regular commercial flight. This routing caused delays to the schedule and Cobija could no longer be used to refuel because of night time closure of the airport, according to the airline's general director.

TOP TIP: Don't turn into Dirk Gently and add a tiny bit of context. Next, you'll be beating your chest about being unashamedly ITK and look where he is now. Just look.

Anyway, gr8 link.

"Sorry, the fuel limit and the flight time are the same"
"yes"
"so, you're going to change anything"
"we'll be fine"
