How not to win support for your cause

by ayjaydee » 27 Apr 2019 00:24

l feel Danny Rose has done the “Kick it out” campaign no favours with his comment about the fine dished out to Montenegro (20,000 Euro).

“When countries get fined on what l probably spend on a night out in London what do you expect?”

Just how divorced from reality are these overpaid prima donnas?

He'd been better served keeping player wages out of it completely and comparing it to how much the respective FA's get paid for broadcasting rights.

It is ridiculously low though. They'd lose more revenue by having to play 1 game behind closed doors.

To be honest, I think the only solution is to ban teams from competition to the point of suspending membership of the governing body for persistent offenders.

It's a hell of a trick to make yourself look as big aprick as the racists when you were racially abused. Over privileged twat.

Not as far divorced from reality as anybody who thinks the success of a campaign to kick racism out of football should rely on immaculate behaviour from the people on the receiving end of the abuse.

The comment comes from the time of the offence. It is not a response to the actual size of the fine. He is trying to say that the fines are tiny, rather than his nights out are expensive.

Rose isn't stupid. His behaviour does not have to be perfect to have his say on this issue. He is allowed to use exaggeration or attempt humour in his comments, just like any footballer, black or white.

The press aren't stupid. Those who might be tempted to publish that quote now, with no qualification, know full well what they are implying.

Which is a fair point.

Whether Danny Rose is spaffing his money on £2,000 bottles of wine on his nights out or not, fining a football association £20,000 is a joke and really no incentive for them to do anything about addressing the problem.

Those quick to jump on Rose miss his point entirely as to the amount of money in football - he was contextualising the triviality of the fine handed to them.

Yeh he could’ve chosen another example though.

Racists gonna racist

Pretty sure OP has previous for this sort of stuff. In fact if he's who I think he is he's been on here with outright 'send the buggars back' type comments previously

To compound it, wasn't the fine for flares being set off, not the racism?

The problem is that the old duffers who run the game really don't get it, and live in circles where giving a player racial abuse is just seen as a king of "sledging" to put the player off (as many here thought 30 years ago or so - anyone going in the 80s can recall when the Southbank thought singing "you've got a town full of pakis" to Bradford fans was the height of hilarity...and no, it wasn't just 'a few' who sang along).

That said, Danny Rose's comment could have been more considered. It doesn't diminish the message in any way, but does make him look out of touch.

Just a point on Montenegro and Danny Rose's nights out.
Montenegro is a miniscule nation in footballing and financial terms so a fine of £20,000 is probably something like £2,000,000 if it were our ludicrously wealthy FA being fined therefore the fine may only be the equivalent to a night out for the extremely well paid diving, cheating English footballer that is Danny Rose (who supposedly can't wait to retire but presumably quite likes his own millionaire lifestyle).

So my view is that the fine may appear to be too low by English standards it is still an amount of money that I suspect will affect the finances of the Montenegro FA and being hit in the pocket tends to make you sit up and take notice.

We can but hope.

Well, their average attendance is about 8,000 so if their ticket prices are more than €2.50, making them play 1 fixture behind closed doors would be a more financially damaging punishment.
