NathStPaul Nobody said they were an attacking team, just pointing out they are not incredibly dull which is backed up by facts. Why dig a hole for yourself? Just admit you are wrong and move on.

Have you read the rest of his posts? The Liverpool thread around the time of the CL match-up v Real Madrid is a particular highlight.

I have managed to avoid but thanks to you I will now have to read them. Cheers.

I'm not digging a hole, you backed up your argument with a fact about the goals they have scored and I countered it with a fact about the amount of shots they have had compared to Real Madrid.

I acknowledged they have a more consistent unit of attackers than either of their main rivals and anyone else in La Liga. They have a functional style that works for them and if they win La Liga then fair play.

I just find them dull and think, with the quality of attacking players they have they could open up a bit more in the bigger games. Perhaps if they were more adventurous in those games against Real Madrid then they wouldn't be going into the final weekend with the possibility of losing the title on the head to head record.

Yes, because those were totally serious and not a tongue in cheek parody of the delusional arrogant Liverpool fan in any way.

One for
St Pauli .
, the Hamburg promotion f*ck up was completed on Sunday.

After 17 games, they were top on 41pts. Second half of the season has seen them pick up just 14 and drop to 5th, 6 points adrift of 3rd with 1 game to play.

Promotion still up for grabs. Top 3 is set but auto promotion will go to any 2 of Bochum, Kiel and Fürth, with the one who misses out facing the 16th placed club in the Bundesliga. That will be either Cologne, Bielefeld or Bremen.

Talking of Hamburg - key players in the above, a good read about Bundesliga 2000-01, the season when Schalke were champions, for the first time ever, for just four agonising minutes.

In 1999, Gianluigi Buffon won his first Coppa Italia alongside Enrico Chiesa at Parma.

Tonight, he won his sixth Coppa Italia alongside Federico Chiesa, Enrico's son.

Not European, but South American - River Plate beat Independiente in the Copa Liberatadores 2-1, despite playing the entire match with a midfielder in goal, and only selecting 11 players for the game. A COVID outbreak affected 20 of their squad, but the game went ahead, and River were denied the opportunity to register a fifth keeper in their squad, with their other four all struck down.

There's a couple more of these, although this is the first pair of teammates. He played with Lilian Thuram and has played against Thuram's son Marcus. And he faced George Weah, and has played with Weah's son Timothy.
