RUMOUR - Martyn Waghorn to sign

by Coppell's Right Footed 11 » 09 Jun 2011 13:18

Afternoon.

I have been informed that we had a bid accepted around the £2 million mark for Martyn Waghorn of Leicester.

He is currently on holiday, although is set to sign a 4 year deal when he returns on Monday and will complete the formalities of a medical.

Young, pacy, strong and a decent scoring record at this level.

Will fit in well as Longs potential replacement.

Will this be the same medical that Tommy Smith is having?

Didn't he sorta fade away after a good start there on loan?
IIRC he was another hard-running,chase everything type of striker rather than a target man.

The Leicester fans don't seem to bothered with the rumours that he'll be off somewhere else. Apparently he really hasn't set the world alight there although i thought he was very good. That said, Leicester are looking to spend big to get back to the Prem with Sven so wouldn't rule it out at all

Fair Point.

Lets hope Portsmouth don't enter the race then eh?

He was pushed out last season due to them signing Yakubu, Vassell and Kamara.

Nah it's the same medical robbie fowler is having!

A bit pricey at £2 mill but yeah perfect replacement shlong IF true. Also medical would be interesting as missed end of season with a hamstring injury.

Just 4 goals last year?

Career stats 45 (50) = 53 x 90 min games for 17 Goals, not terrible, but 2 Million sounds a lot

1,176 Minutes 2010-11 for 04 goals and 1 assists
2,765 Minutes 1009-10 for 12 goals and 6 assists

4,572 Minutes for 17 goals and 7 assist, almost exactly a goal every 3 full games.

He's young, at 21 and a half, so probably has potential. Still seems a lot for RFC.

If it's true looks like one to nurture and turn into 6 Million. I'd still have thought 1 M was more the mark, though.

Does 3M for Long (28 goals) seem in the same ball-park as Waghorn's (4 goals) 2M?

I think we'll get more than 3m for long and pay less than 2m for Waggers, if it's a true story.

Maybe last year was just not his year just like Shane the year before?
BTW Wayne Rooney scored the same number of league goals as Kevin Nolan last season.
This is where selective stats once again fall down.

To be fair Shane Long was hardly prolific until October onwards.

3 years Younger than Shane and scored 17 goals for Leicester in their return season in the championship.

4 goals last year isn't brilliant, but to be fair i doubt he played many games back to back. A start here nor there and subs appearances isn't great for a striker.

The season before last he scored 17 goals compared to Danny Graham who scored 14....comparable.

Decent player with attributes im sure McDermott can improve on

For ages you argued that we had to take Shane's career in to account and also to allow for the fact that he was used as a sub a lot (ie goals per minute)

Isn't it only fair to do the same for Waghorn (after all he has been used as a sub quite a bit).

Source? Can't stand it when people write stuff like this and have no evidence to back it up.

I know what it means Yately royal, im not as stupid as some of the other people on here, but if your coming onto here saying that you have been informed about this bid then the likelihood is that there is a source? wouldnt you agree?

No, I don't agree. The 'source' could be his mate who lives in Leicester, which isn't really a source at all. Don't have a go at people for posting speculation when that's exactly what this forum is for. Oh, and Yateley has 2 'e's' in it.

would it all have been ok if he had included the words "by my mate dave a leicester fan", or "big al from the club shop"?
