Carlisle local newspaper The Gunners loanee has returned to the Emirates Stadium after two months with United, with Abbott deciding not to push for a longer stint for the 19-year-old.
Cruise made eight appearances in his two-month spell but Abbott believes he can recruit a stronger option at left-back.
