What do we need in the January Sales?

by Mr Angry » 09 Dec 2011 13:29

With 3 weeks to go before the transfer window opens up, realistically (ie: NOT a 50 goal a season striker!!) what sort of additional players do we need to add to the squad?

I'll start with the following:

1. A creative &/or goal-scoring midfield player.
2. A winger to replace Kebe (who is likely to be moving on)
3. Central defensive cover

We have HRK

I would wait until July before getting someone else

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Hrk, good one. But i'd agree we can wait till July for a replacement unless someone comes in and offers silly money for Kebe.

It'd be good to get some different options in, like a creative centre mid and a big man up front. Unless Jake Taylor and Cedric  Baseya are up to scratch.

I reckon we'll do little business unless someone leaves for good money.

Hals stats are pretty good up against his competition, his only problem is consistency.

But unless he's starting regularly he's never going to find his rhythm. Probably doesn't need to be said that the reason he performs better coming off the bench is because he doesn't need to worry about pacing himself or anything.

If Kebe goes (likely) then obviously we need to get someone in.

We can't go into the second half of the season with only two wingers plus Obita as back up. McAnuff hasn't had the most dynamic start to the season (I'd back him to improve if Kebe leaves though) and Robson-Kanu was that good a winger that the manager wanted to turn him into a centre forward over the summer.

Obita has been fit for a while now and hasn't seemed to have a sniff at the first team from what I can see.

I reckon we'll need to bring in:

another centre half (we'll be losing one in January as well remember), a winger, a midfielder who can offer more of a goal threat and bit that bit more creative (I'd actually like to see us try for Keith Andrews - not the naturally creative player many would want but would probably fit McDermotts style more) and a big/link up centre forward to replace Church who I'd ship out (Keogh or Cox would still fit the bill for me).

Sell Bryn, sadly, get that loan fella back to Spurs at any cost. Move M Williams out permanantly, and Howard and B Williams. Possibly even move Tabby on as well.

Only sign a striker if we lose one from Church.Hunt. Mansett.

CB we have cover with Morrison, use him or lose him.

Get Ugwu into the playing side of things, his record is outstanding from what I can see.

Pearce is 1 booking away from a 1 game ban so we may get to see Morrison or Kumalo in the team before xmas....

Really? I think HRK is a budget version of McAnuff. Sadly i think HRK without a massive injury at a young age could've be a great player with a bit more pace.

Assuming Kebe goes replacing him is most important.
Next is some sort of creative midfielder, preferably who's also capable of putting their foot in. He doesn't have to be technically brilliant, just needs to threaten the goal either with through balls, driving runs, or decent long shots. Someone who knocks in at least 4 or 5 goals a season would be perfec'.
Centreback cover or someone to push Pearce down the pecking order. Ideally someone who can bring the ball out of defence and pass it.
Someone with experience at this level who can partner Le Fondre - probably have to get shot of at least one of Hunt or preferrably Church in that case.

I'd love to see us nick Liam Trotter from Millwall by the way. Can't see that one happening either but I've been impressed with him this season.

Another player I thought might've been suitable in the summer was Buzsaky at QPR, he's been on the fringes so may well be available and would be just the right type of player for me.

Think it's more likely we'd get an attacking player in on loan. Someone like Cox, De Santos (if we've not burnt our bridges with Spurs) or even Bostock if we're desperate, or Suso (cracking little youngster at Liverpool who will need games soon).

A winger (cross between kebe and little would be perfect)
A cm (cross between leigertwood and gylfi would be perfect)

I could do with a decent pair of chinos with turn-ups. Really hard to find these days. No turn ups and they are not really chinos, just trousers.
