How many of Howards assits were from his corners though?

Not denying he's the more creative of our current options but I think the stats are weighted in his favour because he was taking corners (and probably free kicks) for quite a bit during his time in the side.

I totally agree we need some more creativity through the middle too. It's not just creativity either, it's composure and an ability to keep the ball and get us passing as opposed to just quickly moving the ball forward for the lads up front to battle defenders for.

DO we really need another striker? We already have ALFIE, Church, Sheppard, Hunt, Manset,Bignall, Baseya, B.Williams.

Yes we do.

None of them can really hold up the ball (Bothroyd) or run in behind and stretch a back four (Campbell). Both would probably create and score more goals than our existing forwards too.

Well that's a different question to the one you asked.

How do you know we can't? How much are QPR suggesting we pay? What can we afford?

Well yes if they aren't good enough, or good enough yet.

Alfie is a proven finisher but needs the service and someone to play off of, Church has come on leaps this year but perhaps also needs that partner up front, Hunt is forever battling niggling injuries and isn't nearly consistant enough, Manset is heavy and needs a loan move, but above all he needs to control his weight or forget about a career at this level, Bignal and Baseya aren't ready yet.

With Harte in the team last season I doubt he was taking that many.

What Howard was good at was making runs at the edge of the box and being fouled at significant moments.

This might be one for Snowball, but I'd love to see figures for just how many of the edge-of-the box free kicks that first Gylfi and then Harte scored from were won by Howard. I'd say a very high percentage.

Bothroyd would be a really good signing I think - ALF or Church would be able to play off him much more effectively than they do at leading the line.

A few seasons ago we needed strikers, and signed 37 leftbacks. Now we need a creative midfielder and we seem fixated on strikers.

MIDFIELDER, McDermott! MIDFIELDER!

It is a little bit like playing Champ Man, and you haven't got enough goals, so you just keep signing more and more strikers in the hope that one of them might work, despite the fact that their stats are pretty poor....

I think these signings could definately work if we changed our formation from 4-4-2 to 4-4-12.

On the other hand, maybe ALF or Manset are being lined up for a loan spell.

Think Manset will probs be loaned out, would be very surprised if ALF was

Well, ALF can’t be happy with sitting on the bench every other game as McD desperately tries to solve a midfield problem by chopping and changing the front two each weekend.

Won't other teams get a bit miffed if we have 21 players on the pitch?

He certainly took a fair few as I remember Harte scoring from one (perhaps against Norwich) and I think it was mentioned on here how, even though a lot of his goals were from pens and free kicks, he scored quite a few for Carlisle by being in the box for corners.
