Clearly, but that doesn't mean we can't have a healthy debate over it while he has a mass debate over it.

Speaking in more general terms about kits, there's a real goldmine of inspiration here:

http://historicalkits.co.uk/Reading/Reading.htm

I'd love next season's kit to be a throwback to the 1871-2 one. Unfortunately, modern designs and sponsorship, etc. makes that pretty unlikely.

I quite like the charity special one-off kits in general- West Brom's at the weekend was great. I could see the club doing it more often after the success over the weekend.

Interesting, so by my calulations that's 75 out of 144 years that we haven't worn hoops, against 69 that we have.

Looks like it. Well, we wore hoops in our first ever kit. Good enough for me!

Blue and white stripes wasn't it? We moved to hoops later, and before QPR, but they stuck to them while we chopped and changed a bit.
lol at not renewing a season ticket because of the shirt
Agreed tbh.

There are so many better reasons not to renew.

Yeah you could just lie about why you're not renewing and make it sound like it's your choice.

Coppelled_Streets Never happen. It's bad enough the club chop and change from blue shorts/socks and white shorts/socks, but they'll never bin the hoops now. If we want snazzy kits then that's what the away kit or third choice is for. Messing with the traditional home strip never ends well, and will only alianate the supporters even further.

We were once the 'Biscuitmen' which (IMHO) was less devisive and superior to the, made up by the marketing department and not the fans, 'Royals' I guess anything is possible and our opinions are sadly neither required or respected :(

Was that directed at me or the author of the thread :?: I can only assume the latter.

Sandman Except 'Royals' was made up by the fans.

Not quite right as far as I recall. 1976 is a little (although not too much) before my time but I believe that was the year the nickname was chosen as a result of an invitation to send suggestions to the Evening Post. So, in that case it was hardly 'the fans choice' now was it. Never understood why they decided that the 'Biscuitmen' moniker was deemed redundant; do they still make hats in Luton and Stockport or chairs in High Wycombe :?: Sort of comforting to know that the Craig Mortimer Zhikas of 40 years ago were just as useless as they are now

There was a vote in the Post, the majority of fans chose "Royals".

40 years since we last got a say on this big issue! Give us a vote on it!

And after the EU referendum has been done, let Reading fans have another say in choosing their official club nickname 8)

No, I believe manager Charlie Hurley picked 'the Royals' from a selection of nicknames suggested by fans.

If anyone has the Peterboro League Cup (h) programme for Aug 1976 handy they can check the story / STAR memory in there.

Now who noticed Sasima's home knitted scarf for the Wembley game? Plain blue. Not a hoop in sight. Could be an omen....
