Anyone eye any strikers we should sign?

by Royal_jimmy » 25 Apr 2015 19:45

I am a regular and go to most games. Sadly I have endured a lot of the misery this season including today.

We are screaming for a decent striker who can finish. Next season as much as I want us to blood Dominic Samuels as he looks promising, I still don't think we have enough up front to score goals.

So who would you like us to sign who can score goals and we can realistically afford?

Look internally perhaps at our amazing academy we hear so much about?

Can't help but (naively) think we could build a solid team from a lot of our own players who have come through the ranks.

Dominic Samuel, is he ready for the first team (when he recovers from injury)?

Dominic Samuel has earned his chance for his performances at Coventry, as for who we should sign, there has to be enough options, lower league strikers looking to make the step up, backup strikers at prem/championship teams or if none of that bears fruit, a solid loan signing can do wonders, see Bamford at Middlesbrough.

The scouting structure, our own academy and connections with PASE academy, Borehamwood FC, lower and non league football, euro and world wide shopping are supposed to provide potential are they not? where are our Ian Wright, Wright, Wright's et al?

I saw a dog dying at the side of the road on the way home from the match. I reckon it could do a job compared to the current lot we have.

The obvious choices are Solanki or Bamford on loan from Chelsea

Although Solanke may want to get away from there given Jose's less than stellar record developing young players who are not named Raphael Varane.

So how did Solanke get to play for Chelsea's academy when he was born in Reading? We really must stop families moving out of Reading without signing documents committing any youngsters to the club if they prove half decent.

Relying on Samuel, Tanner or Stacey to be our saviour with other academy products with minimal football league experience to get 15-20 goals is very naive and silly. I expect us to see plenty of Samuel and maybe Stacey next season but we cant expect one of them to score 15 goals, its not fair on them putting pressure on them to achieve that.

We need to sign a goalscorer this summer urgently.

Chelsea scout the Reading area heavily and sign about half the best young players.

I know he's probably not as good as he was but isn't Nicky Maynard on a free this summer? Could do worse and might no be that expensive.

Will Grigg of Brentford if they were willing to sell, Joe Garner at Preston (poor champ record though!), Conor Washington at Peterborough?? Brett Pitman may be surplus to requirments should Bournemouth go up and is a definate goal scorer and Clayton Donaldson would be a good shout at out level and if Birmingham are still in a precarious financial situation maybe worth a look ( not that we know what our own financial situation is come pre season!)
