Al-Habsi, a keeper Wigan binned as he was poor for them for a long time.

Quinn and McShane on frees. Vydra on a stupid loan.

Stop clutching at straws; did we use the £4m or so we got for Blackman? That answer is no and now we have a slow 34 year old up front.

Don't believe that all those players play for free and joined without a signing on fee.

Vydra's stupid loan cost was more than balanced off by the comedy gold we got from Derby

Kermogant will look better next season when Samuel plays alongside him - although why on earth Brian won't recall him from Gillingham to play for the rest of the season is beyond me.

Further work to be completed on the squad in summer. Expect a load of younger players and cheapo signings that Brian will get the most out of (and more) to form the basis for next year.

Blackman was our only player capable of doing something and winning us games. He was a great fit for our style of play. Who cares if he was pants for 2 years prior to that, the fact is he remains our top scorer and will be come the end of the season even though he left in January.

And how do you know Kermorgant won't flop for us next season? What makes you think he will bang them in. Hes been ok but we have signed him just because he is cheap and available rather than having a way to fit him into this team. Signing old cheapo's is not how you build a decent team. We need pace up front and a tricky player to replace the lost creativity that has gone.

Some major surgery is needed in midfield and up front this summer or we will be relegated next season. No ifs no buts. We need to decide whether we play 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 and find players to fit that system.

This is the Blackman who scored a few goals and did look better than anything we'd seen in his previous time here (but let's be honest that wasn't going to be hard was it?). Let's also note he'd scored as many as Vydra since the rot set in at Fulham away, so was hardly setting the world alight when he did move to Derby - so he was just as much a waste of space as anyone else in the team in that time and I really couldn't see that being any different if he'd stayed.

And what's he done at Derby since he moved? Nothing - and now can't even get in their squad

Best £4m we ever got.

PS - Blackman will score against us next season (probably be the next time he scores again).

As for the Cormorant he is a short term solution no more. He might flop next season but he has some pedigree at this level so chances are he will be a solid contributor at least. However we will need to add a striker in the summer and that really does need to be a serious money option.

Surely the owners will be thinking why they would need to be shelling out for a new striker in the summer when they had already invested in Kermit and Rakkels in Jan, unless it's a complete acceptance that it was like for like with those leaving, that left a balance and now they need to replace the Vydra capability. I doubt it.

All decent players, all arrived with the required money being spent. Just because one of them had arrived following poor performances and another has failed to live up to expectations doesn't make them poor players.

Had we failed to agree the Vydra deal, it's exactly the sort of player and deal you'd be bemoaning us not making. High value player of proven quality, with little apparent risk.

January is a poor time to be finding good players at good value. Our transfers have been mixed this season. But that's the norm on the whole. Some pay off quickly, some pay off slowly and some never pay off.

You are aware that 2 players on £10,000 a week 4 year deals = around £4m?

Surprised not to see players queuing round the block to sign for Reading seeing as we are the only football club who pay wages.

Except to Nick Blackman, apparently

Quinn may have been free, but he's on £25k a week. You'd assume McShane is on that too

Why do people always forget the wages :?

He is?

Christ, we didn't pay that in our premier league days (except for Pog), so it'd seem weird to be paying two players that now.

How do you think we've had a wage bill over £30m for at least two seasons in the Championship (probably 3 now).

If you think that the likes of Mariappa, Guthrie, Federici, Gunter, Roberts and McCleary, not to mention Williams, Robson-Kanu, Kebe etc weren't on about that level you're dreaming.

Like you are with Blackman? What was he, playing for free? Or have Derby got some awesome deal where we carry on paying his wages?

Blackman was our only player capable of doing something and winning us games. ..

LOL.

why on earth Brian won't recall him from Gillingham to play for the rest of the season is beyond me.

probably so he continues to get experience, while also not being infected by the weak attitude and losing mentality of the current side.

he'll be in next year, having played a full season and been successful.

[STAR rage alert.]

I am led to believe that Brian may have mentioned something at the Fans Forum about wanting Samuel to gain as much valuable experience in a promotion push at Gillingham as possible ready to be of use to us next season, rather than bring him back early and use him now.

[STAR rage alert/]

I heard it on my radio.
