Watson is miles better than Furlong.

Perhaps it's Gunter who may be on the move ?

Nameless So we have Kermogant who is a line leader, we have Samuels, Rakells who are different, and we have Meite who looks different again.
What are we looking for ?

Kermie doesn't score enough and is old. So back up / replacement for him.

If you look at Kermorgant's record since last January, he's played 38 games with 10 goals. For Bournemouth he got 38 (15).

Double figures in the Championship over less than a full season isn't bad for a 35 year old.

How many of them were penalties?

I've no idea. Do they not count as goals?

What pissed me off the most about Vydra (and I was pretty damn tolerant, considering) were the penalties he missed, rather than the sitters he missed. They may be "half-goals" if you score them, but they're definitely "double-goals" if you miss the frigging things.

I think that averages out as goals.....

I have to admit I have never seen Furlong play. Gunter has a year left on his deal correct?

Not terribly surprising, he's only played one Championship game this season (against us). Where, let's face it, he wasn't exactly tested! He was on loan to Swindon up till then.

He did play 3 games in the PL 2 years ago though.

summer 2018, yeah. So, I guess it *might* make sense if Gunts is going - but even then, you'd imagine they'd try and get in some short-term experience rather than have two for that role with, what, 4 games in this league between them.

Weird, if true.

If we treat all the Reading Forwards on the goals scored in open play

Yann - 5 Goals which equates to a goal every 244 mins
McG - 6 goals which equates to a goal every 232 mins
Samuel - 2 Goals which equates to a goal every 200 mins
Harriot - 1 goal which equates to a goal every 383 mins
Beerens - 4 goals which equates to a goal every 510 mins

Agreed. Especially considering Stam said he wanted to sign proven winners with experience in the league..

Ross McCormack is out of favour with Steve Bruce.

Proven quality, but poor form for Villa and apparent attitude problems are a negative. Plus he'd probably be expensive (and can't see them loaning to a playoff rival).

Apparently he's missed a fair amount of training sessions this season. One of his excuses was that his electric gate was broken so he couldn't get out of his drive.

I'm told Bruce's response amounted to your wall isn't high, jump it and get a taxi.

Don't know about yesterday's signing but am delighted with the three made today especially a proven front man in Grabban.
This is just about the best deadline day I can remember and my normal pessimism about our club has been replaced by definite optimism which hasn't been the case for me since the 106 season especially as the second time we went up only became likely at the very end of the season when we had those 2 south coast wins in a week.
Well done to whoever owns our club today for backing the manager who has worked wonders so far.

Forgive me for perhaps jumping the gun a bit! :?

This isn't in the assumption Reading are going to go up to the Premier League this year but interested to see where people think we need to strengthen in order to be competitive in the big time also who would realistically join us for a chance at the top.

For me:

1x PL proven striker - I think Long would come back if he were given the chance and we would benefit from his aerial ability hugely as well as his obvious pace
1x Natural left back - Obita being more a winger and Blackett most likely to be out of his depth (who knows the step up may do him some good)
1x Centre midfield commander - We need a big physical midfield destroyer in a similar build of players like Wanyama, Imbula etc

In all honesty, I feel we have a good, young squad who could make the transition quite well. Players like Moore, Swift, Obita etc could acclimatise to PL football fairly smoothly.

But I would say we would need about 7 or 8 signings to actually hold our own and be enough of a threat to avoid relegation. Our complete forward line and wingers IMO are not up to PL standard. You can strengthen the defence as much as you like, but we would be cannon fodder if we weren't a threat at the other end.

Ftr I think we are far better prepared than other current playoff counterparts. The likes of Leeds would need to invest far more than the likes of ourselves.
