Yup. Remember when we had the luxury of persevering with players til they came good.

Long's transformation with us is why I'm a big believer in confidence and hunger over raw ability. His touch was atrocious when he first broke through, then as the team got better, so did he.

If we're still short at the end of the windows, I'd take Long on a season long loan (assuming he's fit)), and make him our central striker alongside Yakou and Mo

Maybe my advancing years are dulling my memory but didn’t Long break through during the 106 campaign. And then the team got better ?

Yes mainly off the bench that season..

When he first came here his second touch wasa tackle but he certainly proved me wrong..

Remember that header against Derby in the 106 season great run and bullet header and that was the point I thought there is a player there...

crucially he was a perfect 4th choice.

no good having 4 strikers at the same level

If you’ve been released by Rangers then probably Tesco or Sainsbury’s are your likely next employer. You aren’t going to step up several levels to the Championship !

Can’t believe nobody has signed Abel Hernández - free agent and good striker.

£75k a week might be the reason.

Good point. He signed for Al-Ahli this evening likely picking up a huge salary.
