2 world wars, 1 world cup
From Despair To Where? I was thinking purely in terms of wanting both Blackett and Obita to stay and how to accommodate them both.

Obita has a goal and 2 assists in 7 appearances, Blackett 3 assists in 10 appearances so, as fullbacks they are both more than capable going forward and obviously both reasonably strong defensively.

I think Obita is the better footballer but there are obvious concerns about his fitness but I'm intrigued by the idea of them maybe playing in tandem down the left.

IIRC Obita was originally a left winger who we converted to LB due to need, which explains why his crossing is better than his defending.

Yes. Basically, Obita converted to a LB because Bridge was permacrocked

Depends if we were going to play with proper wingers or wide forwards regularly.

If we were those three, plus a more specialist left forward / winger would be fine as all three could play LB or at a push LWB and Richards and Obita could cover LW/F.

I wouldn't want just the three of them though. They create well, but none of them really score enough. Could quickly leave us in a goal drought and short if we didn't have someone prolific elsewhere.

Nice way of keeping all three though. I still wish we'd kept Jobi and swapped him and Jordan round

Got a feeling something unexpected is going to happen in this window.

Whoever it is - It’ll involve Kia and a random European side like Monaco etc.

Rumours all v. quiet right now. I expect it'll happen in the last few days again.

With our new D0fF and Kia I would expect the chances of getting a South American striker are quite high.

Not sure if he could fill the João shaped hole up front but could possibly get Bodvarsson back on loan as he knows the set up and isn't getting game time with Millwall.

Irrespective of how well he's playing, I find it interesting that at Wolves and now Millwall, he's missed very few games because of injury whereas here, he spent half his life on the injury table. Maybe it was us and not him that was the problem?

Surprised it's not working for him there, think he's a decent Championship striker, if not a little clumsy. Wouldn't take him back though

No. I like the guy and all and hes a perfectly good player but he always brought the ball wide. Last thing we need.

Reading have held talks with São Paulo about signing Brazilian midfielders Felipe Araruna and Igor Liziero

Mind you a quick google of the latter suggests Barcelona, Real and PSG are interested so can probably mark that as an ‘unlikely’

Might be something to do with this Alexandre Mattos chap who has been linked as director of football. to be fair we are a good shop window for up and coming player (23 and 21 respectively) look at Puscas. if someone had said to me in the summer we would sign someone of his calibre I would have laughed before it happened.

I always naturally get nervous when I hear rumours about big signings from overseas. We currently have plenty of talent in CM. I guess if we don't make Pele permanent and don't extend Adam's contract, there are roles for them. But if you look at building a squad for promotion, you'd see Swift and Ejaria having key roles with Rinomhota playing a very useful squad role. Is it really a priority area to spend big money? On a player from a different culture who may take time to settle in? Would the money not be better spent on Pele? He'll be cheaper, has settled into the league and is now playing a very effective role for the team.

Exactly, I get very nervous when you start to hear about us chasing several players. The squad has finally settled, it’s too big as it is, all it needs is 1 or so signing to complement. Every window 2-3 is the perfect number of you want to build long term.

Feels like we could be going in circles once again...joy

According to Wiki, Liziero has played 32 games and had 46 billion injuries.

That's a no from me then.

I get really confused about the Brazilian league system. I know the have a national championship and a state championship so I presume a lot of the big clubs will almost run two squads depending on what championship they are competing in at the time, as they could be playing 60 league games a season, so just because someone is on the books of a big club, it doesn't necessarily mean they are any good.

I can only imagine if there was a London Championship, what side would Arsenal field against Barnet?
