By the way shouldn’t this thread now be updated as Confimred and moved to the team forum

Sounds like exactly the type of person we should be trying to stay away from. At least this time we have Howe overseeing things.

We do t seem to learn.

This is typical Chinese management. Expect this to be the norm.

Agreed. We need a DFO who never signs anyone and refuses to spend any money !
Not sure about this stuff about signing players being ‘bad’, every club signs plenty of players every year. Brentford were quoted as an example to follow but over the last 3 seasons they have signed over 40 players !
The key is signing the right players and on the face of it this guy’s transfer dealings have led to decent success at his clubs.
My concern would be whether what he is done in the fairly special world of Brazilian football will transfer across to the Dhampionship, which is an utterly different place in every way.
The point about Joorabchian is a good one, would be amazed if this guy hasn’t been brought in as a tie in to his empire. You wonder whether we will develop into a conduit for S American players moving to Europe. Could mean we get some really special players short term as they come to us as a shop window for bigger moves.

Brentford are not a good comparison. They're well known for not having an academy, instead relying upon scouting and recruitment for young talent. We invest a lot in our academy, and should be limiting those "one for the future signings" (obviously with the odd exception like Long).

Looking at the squad right now, and how we became successful under Coppell and McDermott, we should never be making more 3 or 4 signings in a window, and they should all have the quality to improve the squad.

Edit: Interestingly, Sigurdsson had only just turned 16 when we brought him to our academy. So youth scouting is also a big part of the job.

I dont think Joorabchian is necessarily a bad person to deal with as long as he's kept at arm's length and we go in with our eyes open.

My Brentford model suggestion was a bit short sighted I admit. I wasnt thinking about the numbers they signed more the fact they seem to find great deals for undervalued players.

Other than Rafael, Meite and maybe Beerens our permanent signings from abroad have been horrendous for the last 5 years or so. It makes me wonder about or scouting. In fact, without checking because who has time for that, I reckon the majority of our signings from championship or lower clubs have been poor. Whether that comes from management change or poor scouting I dont know.

Has he started yet?

Needs to look Mark Bowen in the eyes and say 'is that the kind of football you aspire your team to play?'

Given the arrival of Araruna and Masika plus the strong links to Liziero the chances are he has started influencing decisions

However Reading are still to make an official announcement as a work permit is still to be granted. Presume the ongoing Corona virus saga has had some effect in slowing the process down.

Not sure he’d really be likely to say that. Not his job is it ?
You might expect Nigel Howe to ask such a question but would be surprised if the new guy would have the brief to query the manager tactically.

According to

http://sportwitness.co.uk/director-cons ... rk-permit/

He might not be joining after all due to work permit delays
