Odd question - could a players contract include a sell on % in the terms of a release course?

Could include pretty much anything I imagine. Whether this one did or not is another q

I guess you could write a contract that says we guarantee we will accept any transfer bid for you where the buying club offers us a sell on fee of x%

Seems stupid though unless it also includes a trigger fee. Here's £0.01 and a sell on of 25%, you can't say no!

Yeah thats what i was hinting at, maybe Olise release clause was 8m and a big sell on clause and thats why its taken this long, i dunno just speculating.
Anyway, good luck to him, I will watch his development.

Rumours circulating on that there Twitter that Olise has a back injury which could keep him out for 12 weeks, apparently Palace bought him knowing this.

Meanwhile Bournemouth have the luxury of rejecting a £15m bid for Danjuma.

To be fair, he's one of their lower paid players. He's only on £30,000 a week

And he is under contract until 2024 not 2022.

Must have been a lot of haggling over the £8 mill get out clause in the contract.Or did we roll over and get shafted by Olise’s agent ?As of today he is clearly worth double that;let’s hope our add ons are quite lucrative for us.

you do realise the contract wasn't signed or negotiated 'today' ?
An £8 million release for a pretty unknown 16 year old with no first team or even U23 appearances is hardly being shafted.
no reason there would be any add ons if a release clause was triggered, all the bonus payments would go to Olise.

Lots of hindsight on this thread. To have a clause of that size for a lad who at the time hadn't broken into the team shows far more foresight than the teams that released him before he joined our academy. And if we had offered him a huge contract with big wages and it hadnt gone the way it has the angry brigade would have been shouting the odds from the rooftops. It's a very tricky balancing act and I'd say in this case we did ok

TBH it seems about right for kid who had been at two of the top PL side's Academies and had a lot of promise, but hadn't played a competitive league match.

I just didn't think the clause was very likely at that value because it seemed a very easy choice for any mid to lower PL club to sign him in January at that price.

do we have a sell on clause on him?

current media chat is him having a £35M clause in his palace contract and they are trying to get him to sign a new one with a higher clause as Arsenal are interested in taking him this summer

Wouldn't have thought we could have one. If his buyout was £8m and Palace paid it upfront we would be in no position to negotiate a sell on.

yeah its what I suspect. I know some of these agreements can get quite complicated with clubs doing each other favours for other stuff though

If we had decision makers at the club with some sort of business sense we might have done, just can't see it given the state of affairs over the past couple of years.
