not unhappy with those - experienced wingers, presuming won't cost a fortune

Yeah, wouldn't be unhappy with either of those. It wasn't that long ago they were both very highly rated and with no wingers, it would make 100% sense.

Yep, we absolutely need more wide players to give the squad depth and whilst I would prefer us to sign younger players - though somehow Hoilett is still only 31 - they both have plenty of experience of this level and offer us an option.

Bolasie is only 32 as well, so not super old. Probably got 2 years left in him.

As long as the wages are right, I see this being a win win.

3 goals and 4 assists in 15 games for 'Boro last year for Bolasie is pretty good.
2 goals and 2 assists in 23 games for Cardiff last year for Hoilett is less good.

No thanks to Bolasie, not been the same since his big injury.

Hoilett would be a decent enough option.

Pepe the Horseman Olise to palace confirmed, for a record fee.

Hate the wording, what is our previous record, £6.5m? So anything there upwards.

Yeah, do the club think we're dumb? It's obvious spin.

Palace have had our pants down with £8m.

From Despair To Where? This has been gone over and over and I dont think some posters really get it. We are allowed £13m losses each year.

What we do know is that our losses, pre covid were running at about £18-20m a year. We need to shave £7m a year off that just to squeak inside the FFP threshold average allowed losses of £13m a year. That's getting rid of 7 players on £20,000 a week without replacing them and without bringing in anyone else or anyone having an incremental pay rise or any other increase in running costs or drop in revenue just to meet the limit. Chuck into the mix the fact that the only think keeping us FFP compliant in the past 3 years has been flogging the stadium for £28m (and we still posted a loss that year even with doing that) and you see how much of a problem it is . Now, if we flogged the naming rights for £10m a year, that would be great but wouldn't have any impact on this season's FFP calculation.

Realistically, we need to be halving our losses just to give ourselves some room to move in the transfer market. There is absolutely no way we have slashed our wage bill by 40% in the past 2 years and the published figures also suggest nothing of the sort. We lost £42m in the last published accounts for the covid affected year which suggests running costs of close to £1m a week. Our normal income is less than half that.

On the plus side, we haven't tried to blag or bullshit the EFL and have at least been making an effort to address the issue so I'm fairly confident we won't get a points deduction.

Pretty much this.

Remember that even if we bring our expected losses down to 13m that we've still got to wait for the previous years overspend to come off the 3 yea rolling total. And that the EFL might simply take the position that we are not allowed to add to our expenditure AT ALL for the coming season.

Imagine you were putting £500 a month on the credit card and were £25k in debt. So your parents take over your finances and force you to reduce your spending £250 a month. If you then sell your car for £2k are they going to say "Ok, no prob. You can go out and get that PS5 on hire purchase if you want now".

Can't blame the club too much for this one, unlike Richards, and its a good move for him as he will get game time there.

Last year of deal so if it is £8m its probably par.

And anyway - if there is a release clause why has it taken this long for someone to come in?

Not for at least six months as the latter has picked up a bad injury. Supposedly that's one of the reasons they went for Olise.

meh. Could be great. Could be a flop. Seemed to believe his hype a bit too much after having a good 6 months. Think we could look back in a few years time and think £8mil was brilliant bit of business, especially considering its his last year.

Step up Swifty.

Could be worse - we got him from Chelsea for nothing. Good ad for our academy

BerkshireLive understands Brighton and Brentford had also recently expressed an interest in signing Olise but failed to meet the release clause.

That makes zero sense if it was £8m, that's pocket change to Premier League clubs.

It’s a great move for him…at the right level for him and he’ll get game time.

Very frustrating in terms of the fee, but at least we’ve not let his contact run down this time

The biggest shame is the fans haven’t been able to witness his best season in the flesh but oh well

Good luck to him. Would have liked to see him sign on and stay another season, but not likely.

Most importantly, the idiocy of being up shit creek for FFP and refusing millions for players has ended.

Think we should have got double figure millions for him personally.

Quite, but when you see Buendia going for £33m, Eze going for £17m, I can't help but feel a bit short changed.
