Welcome to the joy of having half your first team out of contract next summer.

Think this is even more unlikely than the Laurent one.

How so? Not saying you're wrong, just don't understand the thinking behind a player not having his head turned by more money and a longer contract. He would also cost very little for Forest who clearly have a bit of money to spend.

So we have a threadbare squad , lets sell two of the first team, sounds like a good idea.

Just figured as a fan, like McIntyre, Holmes is more likely to have a bit of patience and stick with Reading over a sidewards move, whereas Laurent could easily have his head turned.

You'd hope so but it is a short career as a footballer. If you get offered a 3 year deal at Forest on double money you're going to have to at least think about it.
Forest are fcuking vultures BTW. Throwing their weight around like they are still a big club. Cannot stand them.

we won't get much for him, and he will be on oxf*rd all wages relatively speaking, any replacement would be a net cost of more, so little point in selling players like holmes. If we were to get a decent fee (5 mill +) then yeah sure it should be considered, but that aint going to happen It would be more in 1-2 mill ballpark i reckon.

We have offered Holmes a 3 year deal already haven't we? Imagine talks are progressing on that one.

Edit: Can see we opens contract talks in July as reported by JLow.

that being said, it's how the Acadamy funds itself. 8 mill for olise and 1-2 for holmes should cover the academies running costs for a number of years. it is supposed to be self sufficient.

It's pretty depressing that a team that finished 10 places below us last season have got a decent shot and nicking two of our first team regulars. Weren't they under embargo last year as well? Are they ok now?

There was talk of it and a lot of call for it to happen from the other clubs but I don't think they were put under any severe restrictions from what I have just read. They were under embargo in 2016 but thats about all I can find.

I did think last season was our best shot at promotion for a long time because of our financial position. It’s proving to be so. This summer window is pretty depressing,

Have we not learnt from previous windows that until it is over it isn't worth getting frustrated about. In summer 2019, there was a lot of bed wetting as not much had happened come start of the season then Joao, Puscas, Rafael and Pele arrived pretty swiftly.

If come the end of the window, we've lost another player or two and not brought anybody in, have a good whinge but let's leave it a while yeah.

I think he can command a okay fee. Realistically i think around £2.5m is what he is worth right now. If he had a longer contract and covid wasn't a factor, could easily be closer to 7m given his age. Would hope we can tie him down to a new deal. Agents might now be in his ear though.
I am not sure if Forest is a more attractive club to move to. Obvs going to be better wages but i would like to think he would rather get minutes for his home club than make his first transfer move to a scatter gun Forest team.

absolutely no way would holmes be worth 7 mill if the covid factor was taken away  :| . 3-4 million at the very most. 2.5 million now is stretching it a bit too. 1-2 is more realistic

You've got to think Forest would be buying him as a back up defender too. No way will they spend more than £2m.

Okay yeah granted £2.5m is a pretty steep but still not unreasonable if another club comes in.

Young CBs are worth good money. Not saying Holmes is anyway near the likes Godfrey or Ake but teams gamble on potential. Another decent season under his belt could see his stock value rocket up.

Forest are just trying their luck with the embargoed clubs. They made a derisory bid for a Derby player last week.

Trying to get players on the cheap.

Yes exactly this. It’s looking very depressing at the moment, and we’d all prefer the transfers to be done earlier in the window, but it could look better in a month’s time
