Yeh like the sound of this. Will be worth it just to hear Tim's pronunciation.

Bit more info:

Reading have an interest in Chesterfield striker Kabongo Tshimanga. He has interest from other clubs in the Championship, Premier League and League One. Middlesbrough have recently joined the hunt with Burnley, Norwich, Huddersfield and Reading among a host of clubs also keen.

Chesterfield are looking for upwards of £1 million.

Sounds like bigger teams than us looking at him and there's a fee involved.

That on its own is going to stuff our chances of getting him then.

No chance if we need to spend money like that.

It would nearly double the current Non-League transfer record. Jack Taylor Barnet -> Peterborough £513,000

I have watched him in a couple of midweek games when I have been working up in Chesterfield. He’s a very good player at National League level and he’s the type of player I believe we’ll sign next season but we can’t pay a transfer fee and for that reason we won’t be signing him.

He should be able to make the step up but he gets injured a fair bit. The last time I watched them play against Notts County he was injured I believe. Chesterfield are now my second team. Mind you, I didn’t feel that way when I witnessed them spanking us 7 - 1 many years ago.

Doubt he’ll end up here - probably any fees we pay are dependent on who we sell

Presumably if we offload Puscas for 5m we may be able to make a few small signings, certainly if we sold Joao for example as well

Fleetwood were promoted the summer that the transfer happened. New season hadn’t started but I suppose they’re chalking that up as a League Two sale.

Seems like a reasonable explanation. Bit of a grey area then.

Not seen either of these players, so am ready to be shot-down here, but…..

Ryan Seager, Hungerford
Josh Kelly, Maidenhead

are two names that seem to pop-up regularly on the local non-league circuit, especially when it comes to goal scoring.

Young, cheap, local and with a bit of full-time coaching…worth a ‘Vardy punt’ ?

I would love it if the club instigated a policy of giving trials to young, local non-league players to give them a chance; after all, it isn't just Vardy who was a success at non League level - didn't Ian Wright get signed from Greenwich Borough by SSC?

Slightly surprised there are no ex-Royals on the books at Maidenhead, as far as I can tell.

Two at Hungerford - Matt Partridge (best known for his ABH conviction) and Andre Burley, on loan from Wycombe.

Seager is in really good form, league top scorer. Things didn't work out for him at a few different clubs. Maybe he's found his level, or maybe he just needs to be played in a way that suits him. Would be a big jump from National League South.

Kelly's playing at a higher level but he scores a goal about half as often as Tshimanga.

If we are allowed to pay fees for players in the summer, he wouldn't be a bad option I don't think, £1m does seem pretty steep though, but we definitely need another forward.

I'm just conscious we don't fall into another McNulty trap here. There is definitely talent available in the lower leagues, I've always been a fan of Scott Twine and Ryan Hardie, but can't imagine we'd be able to spend enough to pick either of those up.

100%

Tshimanga is nowhere near the level of the Championship and it would be foolish to risk £1m on him. He's also got a broken leg so won't be fit till the back end of the pre-season at least.
