Brilliant, so if he stays fit, he might score 15+ goals, but he's very unlikely to stay fit.

Fact is, the guy has never delivered over a season.

Connor is 29, since leaving Reading in 2006 (he was 13 at the time) he’s made 265 appearances and scored 53 times over 14 seasons for 7 clubs. He can also play wide left and lost almost 2 years of his career (Nov 16 to Oct 18) to a serious knee injury.

He has also made 36 appearances for England’s u16-u21 age groups scoring 17 in the process.

Essentially yes. He would be a risk but if he performs in training and is low cost then I'd have no issue with giving him a one year deal with an option of a second based on a certain level of appearances etc.

This would only be the case if we lose Puscas or we cannot afford another option.

Tell him we will double his salary if he starts more than 20 games this season and get the useless big oaf in the door, we need bodies and we need them fast

Welcome back Gus. Would have thought you'd have brought your A game after a long break.

Posted this on team board but will leave it here also.

Long update:

We are miles apart in wage demands. He would love to come home but he can get 3 times as much from other teams circling and it’s more than QPR who are now in the mix.

Prepare yourselves for disappointment. I think that ship has well and truly sailed.

Genuine post and comment from me coming from a strong source.

I am not disappointed about Long. If we’d signed him I’d have been happy enough but I’d sooner give Ehib a chance or maybe a youngster on the loan from the Premiership. I don’t get wanting a 35 year old player who has had better days returning. I wish him well wherever he ends up but we need to move on.

Yeah, not that fussed about Long and if he's asking for 3 times what we're offering, unless we're offering less than £3k a week, it absolutely does not represent value.

If he signs, he signs. If he doesn't he doesn't. From a nostalgia point of view, it would be great but the reality could end being very different.

We aren't the club he left after all. Still wouldn't surprise me if he signs but we can't break the back for him (literally).

Actively didn't want him, so pretty happy.

Not that bothered if those are his demands then really, he isn't worth us paying well over the odds for, especially considering we have Joao still so he'd only ever be second choice anyway.

Unfortunately a lot of this summer may be about being priced out of deals for players. Laurent, Rino and now Long if true.

Agreed. It would suggest he’s wanting 25k plus and that’s not realistic. I wouldn’t be paying anywhere near that for anyone, let alone a signing which would at least in part be driven by sentiment. I doubt a deal at that level would even be approved by the EFL.
Good luck to him if he can get that sort of deal from someone.

Good, didnt want him. Tom Ince must have a few more league 2 mates we can get cheaper anyway.

Played today. Didn’t do a whole lot.

Alongside most of the other trialists unfortunately.

Having watched Wickham for a half today. I can kinda see why we're interested.

He's a big target man to replace Joao.

Sadly he doesn’t have the skill, touch or vision of Joao. Can't comment on his finishing, as he didn’t get within 12 yards of a chance as far as I could tell. But his record speaks for itself.

I'll stick with the view he's not up to it. L1 lump at best. Probably L2.

Royal_jimmy Josh Murphy is on trial with us

Full list of current known triallists:

  1. Jacob DAVENPORT, midfielder, (last at Blackburn), 23
  2. Sam HUTCHINSON, centre back/midfielder, (last at Sheffield Wednesday), 33 on 3 August
  3. Julian JEANVIER, centre back, (last at Brentford), 30
  4. Jodi JONES, winger, (last at Coventry), 24
  5. Massimo LUONGO, midfielder, (last at Sheffield Wednesday), 29
  6. Josh MURPHY, winger, (last at Cardiff), 27
  7. Brandon ORMONDE-OTTEWILL, left back, (last at Excelsior), 26
  8. Grant WARD, midfielder, (last a Blackpool), 27
  9. Connor WICKHAM, striker, (last at MK Dons), 29

Still surprised that Drinkwater and Morrison aren’t on the radar esp. given Dann is already injured again, Moore is crocked too and both Laurent and Rinomhota have departed.

Not sure we’d ask either of them to come for a trial !
Whether they are on the radar or not, I think we know enough about them, and by all accounts Drinkwater is/has been training with us.
