At least it's done in time for tomorrow's game, hopefully a couple more to come in the last few days of the window now as well. LB a priority definitely and then potentially a midfielder or forward.

Surprised he's got a 4 year deal with us given his age. Should have been 3 years really max.

He's only just 29 though, so will be 34 at the time his contract runs out. Allows it to go one of two ways:

a) this is his last major contact with a Champ club
b) he does very well and we can sell him for £

Plus he's probably "only" on 6k pw, which is an ok wage at Champ level but not one that breaks the bank from the club perspective.

Yeah this is no sone Aluko or Liam Moore

Prob needed to give him 4 years to persuade him to come but doubt he’ll be anywhere near as much as 10k pw. So if we give him a free year or so then so be it

We shouldn't be committed to a big wage, but its too long for his age, pedigree and our circumstances.

4 is one year too many but length of deal is our only bargaining chip at the mo and if he fits in well, no reason to think he won't be an asset for most, if not all, that time.

And if in those 4 years we progress past him, we should be able to shift him as he was part of a successful side.

Don’t think the contract length is of any great significance, instead of giving him a sum of money over 3 years we are probably just giving him a very similar sum but spread over 4, allowing us to get the deal through the current restrictions. The overall cost is probably not that much different.

Apart from the fact it commits us to still be paying him in four years when he may no longer be up to being part of the squad.

Four year contracts should be about protecting your resale value in younger players potentially on the up.

We won't be paying him much and by the end of his contract he will be 33 which is not old by any means for a CB, especially one who's game doesn't rely on pace.

I know it's only one game, but after today looks another terrific bit of business.

Very good debut. Remember on recent form by his fourth year he'll be on at least his third manager here.

Probably best to stick to our current circumstances rather some theoretical scenario.
He ‘May’ not be ‘up to’ being part of the squad but he equally may be a cornerstone.
And if the 4th year is essentially a free year anyway it’s not an issue.
If he’s not part of the squad we simply pay off his contract which leaves us in exactly the position we would have been had we paid him more money but over 3 years.

Absolutely.

Sarr/Agent : We want £12k a week for two years
RFC: Can’t do that because of our restrictions
Sarr/Agent : Well how about we agree to the £1.2m but over a longer period
RFC : Er, yeah , that seems to work. £6k a week for four years it is then

To quote Alexander … simples

Hopefully we got a fee for him as he still had 3 years on his contract.

Makes me wonder who is making the decisions, you'd think the club might wait on contracted player outgoings until the manager is in place, unless we do have a manager in place who has decided he doesn't want Naby Sarr.

Well whatever, he's gone.

May have had a relegation clause similar to Ince, in which case we wouldn't have a choice. Or maybe they offered us some half decent money for him so it was a no brainer, manager or not.

Bowen and his team whose job is to make these decisions. Transfers hasn't been the manager's direct responsibility for decades.

Can't say I'm very sorry to see Sarr go. He was pretty rubbish, but should have been able to be solid in the League One

Hopefully a sign we're confident in keeping Holmes and McIntyre and signing Mbengue, plus the quality of Dorsett, Abbey et al coming through.

Assuming I'm not missing a joke here.

Hoping it's true as he was largely useless during his stay and fairly sure we've got more than enough "iffy" defenders already.
