The whole year inn Fulham have just signed Zakuani and look to be after Emerson Boyce, hopefully meaning they will leave Mensah alone.

yes im with you on that one, does this mean they accepted losing out to us ?

Maybe they know Mensah is pretty much set for a move elsewhere, to us, maybe!?

Possible positives from Man City as well with the rumour that Hamann is set to choose them over Bolton. Will they then forget about Sidwell. Charlton also paying £1m last week for Leeds midfielder Simon Walton, ending their interest in Sidwell, maybe.

yes that what i was finkin about the sidwell situation, it is just a wait and see thing at the moment though. and totally agreed with the mensah situation, think he could be signing for us soon. hopefully

The Rennes site says

I think in terms of translation this means that Mensah is epxected back at Rennes for training on 17 July following his world cup exploits - so we may hear more next week - worth checking that website for any reference that he has returned to Rennes on that day.

Nice, AT, nice. How about this for the last sentence:

"They will make their return to the midst of the Breton squad next Monday July 17th."

Absolutely nothing on Mensah joining any other clubs apart from our interest. Hopefully this is good news

Coppell has said that the players he is after are biding their time waiting to see what other offers materialise before committing themselves. I suspect Mr Mensah and his agent are playing it long, probably in the hope that there will be interest from other Premier/european sides.

The Rennes site (I think) seems to suggest that only two out of three international have returned to training - ie not Mensah - slowly but surely this one bubbles away

That is, two Swedish internationals, not that you were in doubt about which two they meant.

Indeed. I think the point to flag is that the site had indicated that all three world cup stars would be back on 17th July - and now John Mensah has gone missing from that list - fingers crossed!

http://www.rennes.maville.com/actu/Deta ... 9&idCLA=46

Dated 19/07

Loose translation...

"World Cup stars Erik Edman, Andreas Isaksson and John Mensah are not on tour with the club (Rennes) in the Czech Republic. They will be following a specific fitness programme instead".
And ... the next news item...

"John Mensah is expected back this week, but the club is not able to give a precise date".

Reading around the French sites, there is some speculation as to his intentions but nothing concrete.

And closer to home...

http://www.puntersrealm.com/modules.php ... &sid=10963

Ghana's World Cup defender John Mensah claims to have fielded offers from both Reading and Charlton Athletic. He claimed: "I am aware of this (Reading's) offer. It's always interesting to be contacted by a Premiership club. We will see. I've spoken to Charlton and they made me an offer. I have told Reading to try and match it."

The Charlton angle is backed up on the French site http://www.wikio.fr/search=John+Mensah

Wasn't the Charlton quote a mix up with Sidwell's comments IIRC incorrectly attributed to Mensah in the Chronicle and then raced round t'interweb

From Clubcall today -

Coppell waits on World Cup star bid
2006-07-20 14:21
Reading boss Steve Coppell is facing an anxious wait to see if his £3.5million offer to Ligue 1 side Rennes for Ghana defender John Mensah will be successful.
Mensah played well at the World Cup for the Black Stars, using his power and aerial ability to great effect at the heart of the Ghanaian defence.
Reports in France suggest that Rennes are willing to do business for the player, as they are looking to raise funds for a replacement for star midfielder Kim Kallstrom, who has joined Lyon.
Mensah is thought to be keen on a move to the Premiership, and he has been a target of Coppell's for over six months, but it remains to be seen whether Rennes will hold out for a bigger fee.

Rennes official site now saying (site updated 19/07) that Mensah is 'expected' and that he was held up in Ghana until Wednesday, due to a Presidential Reception for the national squad.

I have heard that there is going to be a press conference at Reading on Friday, at which a new signing is going to be announced. Mensah has been seen at MadStad looking round .... read into that whatever you want. Coppel has also been quoted today (See Yahoo sports) that he is hoping to have another world cup player in the squad before the start of the season ... looking interesting...

Not un saucisson on either the Rennes Maville or Official Rennes FC sites with regard to Mensah. Reading around these sites, it appears that the club is making their plans for the season without him.
