95 POs First Leg: Tranmere 1 Reading 3.

Reading's greatest ever away performance? I am struggling to think of another (that I have witnessed).

Winning away at Anfield in the Cup must be a close one, but I agree that performance at Tranmere was close to perfection.

Must be something in the air up there !!

It was a special performance. Bearing in mind the importance of the game must rate as one of the best away performances. Archie and Nogan were umplayable that day. Any chance of someone putting the goals on u-tube?

Victor Meldrew gave me his VHS of that game and I'm going to put onto DVD, so bear with me and I'll rip the goals and put up shortly. Won't be today though.

And I'm sure the commentator swore. Didn't he say something like "that was a good ol' fashioned fahking shoulder charge?"

Any way of uploading it? That game, Sheff Utd away in 2003 and Ipswich in 2005/6 are the best 3 away performances I've seen Reading give.

I dunno, Man City away 06/07 runs Sheff Utd pretty close IMO. Can't argue with the other two though...

Ark Royal 95 POs First Leg: Tranmere 1 Reading 3.

Reading's greatest ever away performance? I am struggling to think of another (that I have witnessed).

How about Burnley away in 94/95? Oh no, you missed that one didn't you. How about Charlton away in the same season?

That said, that Tranny game was awesome. We could have scored 6. I remember the tv commentary starting off very pro Tranmere but the longer the game went the more the commentary team realised that we were half decent. What pissed me off was that they only gave us 3,000 or so tickets. They were sold inside 1 day. They could have given us the whole stand and we would have filled it. It was a very loud day and going home with a sense of having witnessed something very special.

I was there 8) Best performance by Reading ever. We were simply superb that day. Home leg was 0-0 ?

Still rank Brentford away as my all-time fav, for pure emotion.

Cu nt. When you land in Chicago next month, I am just going to leave you there.

Oh, and I missed the Charlton game because I was at Turf Moor sussing out Bolton as potential play-off opponents.

Certainly my favourite away game ever.

Sunny shining, beers at the pub next door to the ground, great atmosphere and we were superb that day.

The 0-0 at home was a bit of an anti-climax...but if Scotty Taylor had scored late on from the run he made from his own half, that would have been some goal.

Chelsea 2, Reading 2................best away performance?

I must admit Liverpool away this season supercedes the Tranmere game for me.

I think Liverpool was a great result, but the performance at Tranny was way better. Tranny were pretty much unbeatable at home that season.

What helped with the Tranny game was that the level of expectation was very low. They had beaten us home and away so the chance of coming away with anything better than a defeat was slim. They had a really good front line with Aldridge and Muir with the exceptional wide players Morrissey and Nevin. The fact that we totally outplayed them should not be lost. Ged Brennan came on as a sub in that game for them and he said that it was like watching Brazil. Reading really were that good. Plus, the tranmere fans gave our players a standing ovation at the end of the game. That's how good it was.

Agree - with what was on the game as well - we had nothing to loose at Liverpool. I think Tranmere won 21 out of 23 home games that season.
