Royal Lady Yeah. Next season we should make sure we only play home cup games or more local ones.

I've been to Darlington in the 80s on a coach where we had to meet up at about 6.30 in the morning and got home after midnight. Silly old loyal supporter that I was.

What are you on ???

A mission.

I thought you were moaning about how late you were going to be home - like Everton and seemed to think this excuse would be the same for everyone who wanted to go to away games and that's why we wouldn't have sold 5k tickets.

OK, it's your excuse. give me some examples of why another 2,200 people wouldn't have bought tickets if they'd been the chance.

Royal Tezza Whats the craic with the home end then? Where are we all going for? I quite fancy going in the top tier, £17.50 apparently and hopefully less chance of getting head kicked in/kicked out. Which side is closest to the away support? And is it easy to order the tickets? Will they be available for collection at the ground (don't trust the post). Ta.

It's fairly simple to buy tickets - similar but slightly simpler system to the one Reading use. That does mean you need to provide an address, and anything south of Cheshire will probably arouse suspicion... Might be an idea to just buy tickets on the day - I would be surprised if they sold out completely.

I'm not sure I would leave it right up until the day for a ticket if you really want one.
City are stating that they will only open the East stand level 3 and not the Colin Bell level 3.
I think each side can hold around 4,800 so if that is the case they have less than 5,000 tickets left with pretty much 5 days of selling left.

There again they said that the East level 3 wasn't going to open.

Schards#2 From the RFC statement

"As a result of the free travel offer, there has been a higher than normal level of demand and our supporters could have bought more tickets, perhaps an extra few hundred, if they were available"

This sort of crap really adds insult to injury, rather like the patronising rubbish about having 3 pay days to save up for a season ticket.

Without the free travel the club would easily have sold 5,000+. The vast majority of 1600+ pointers took a ticket and the remainder were sold between midnight and 00.35, before anyone of the 600+'ers could phone or visit the ticket office. Does the club seriously believe they would have only sold a few hundred more?

Bollocks, pure and simple.

Why can't they just put their hands up and accept they made an appalling, if honest, mistake, apologise and state that they will learn from it in future?

It's amazing how often companies, hell even individuals, forget that sometimes it is so much easier just to say "sorry we fcuked up" rather than try and dig a bigger and bigger hole

All it would take is a simple message as follows:-

Reading FC Statement on Man City Ticketing

The Club would like to sincerely apologise that many loyal royals are going to miss out on the chance to watch the team take on Manchester City at Eastlands this Sunday. As described in our previous statement, we were put in a difficult position by both the time frame available and Manchester City’s own plans for closing sections of the stadium.

As a result of this, we underestimated demand for this fixture by a significant amount. We now understand that the benchmarks we put in place to analyse the demand for this fixture have proven to be incorrect, an error that was substantiated by the free coach travel we have provided. In no way did we intend to under value the tremendous support that we receive from the fans.

We hope you can accept this apology, and we promise that we will learn from this in the planning of future away fixtures. An immediate action as a result of this week’s events is that we commit to working more closely with STAR and other fan groups, in order to help understand likely demand prior to determining ticket allocations, in an attempt to avoid such scenarios occurring again.

We greatly appreciate the wonderful backing our fans give the team both home and away. We know we speak for the Manager and Team when we say that seeing our fantastic support at Eastlands on Sunday will help inspire the team to another wonderful result. In the future we will do all we can to ensure as many of you as possible are able to be there to back the boys.

We thank you for your understanding.

Come on you Royals!

You two are doing your best to get this thread to 100 pages, so fair play. There are many people who are unhappy at not being able to get tickets, hence many buying them in the home end. Personally I would rather watch the game in a pub down here than be in with the City fans.

FTR anyone living in London could have been back from Manchester by about 10pm on Sunday if going by train.

I completley agree with bigmike, I very much doubt we would sell 5,000 (if we had that many) if there wasn't free travel. We've had like an average of 700 fans for away attendances this season, we would be lucky if we sold around 3000 without the free coach travel. We took around 1500 to burnley when we could of made it to wembley which was on a Saturday. Trains are shit to city and it's on tv. Based on our away attendances, the club did the right thing asking for 2800 tickets (before they knew about the free travel) because otherwise Reading would of paid for every un sold ticket.

Yeah, but did they have tickets in away end or did they have to buy in home end?

Anyway, fact is, we should have had more tickets - it wasn't that much of a gamble in the grand scheme of things and it wouldn't have hurt customer relations between us and the club for them to have admitted they've made a mistake and to send out an apology similar to the one Seal has drawn up.

Whether people want to believe or deny that we could have sold more tickets, the fact is, we'll never really know.

I hope all of us who are lucky enough to be going, are really vocal and spur the team on. And I hope we win.

Good morning. xx

Oh ffs. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK THE UNSOLD TICKETS WOULD HAVE COST? Peanuts compared to what we are making ON THIS GAME ALONE.

I would imagine the people that went to Ipswich, and hats off to them, are pretty die hard and nearly all have City tickets.

Buggered if I was paying £31 to freeze my bits off over there, we should have given them all free tickets for the cup!

So has this really got to a point of arguing over what the additional demand for tickets would have been? - i.e. something that no-one can possibly knows and so can only speculate on?

Surely it's blindingly obvious that demand was greater than 2,800, but no-one can tell by how much - even before free coach travel changed the parameters even more.

So anyone who can spent their time arguing exactly (or even approximately) how many extra tickets were required is whistling in the wind.
