Maguire So what you're saying is you shouldn't count them and i'm right?

NO

is that clear enough?

1. Until a month or so ago, explicitly, games for any clubs, any league counted.

2. It no longer says this is NOT the case.

3. Please go and find, and prove, "the rule"

No, it does not state that goals in other leagues are not allowed.

You don't think saying he's "joint 13th top scorer in the league" when he scored two goals in the bottom tier a little counter-intuitive?

NB I've probably seen Ian Harte play many more times than anyone else on here and i'm a big fan, so i'm no h8er

No I do not think that. It used to be a pet hate of mine
that players would get a number of goals for a lesser club
and then be "over-rated" when they moved.

But that was always the rule, and was definitely the rule two months ago
because I copied the rule from the BBC sports site and posted it on HNA.

The BBC site, currently IMPLIES the rule has been recently changed
but it doesn't state that this is the case.

John Ashdown of the Guadian names Ian Harte as his Championship signing of the season:

John Ashdown I'm sure I wasn't the only one raised an eyebrow when late in the August transfer window Reading spent £150,000 on 33-year-old Ian Harte. After shining success with Leeds he had spells with Levante, Sunderland and Blackpool, and seemed to have found his level with Carlisle, ready to see out his career in League One, thumping in the odd free-kick and battling fading pace with increasing nous. Instead, he has been a crucial cog in the Royals play-off push. Since displacing summer signing Marcus Williams and making the left-back slot his own only Jobi McAnuff and Shane Long have played more minutes this season. And with 11 goals he's been comfortably the top-scoring defender in the league, a good-old goalscoring throwback of a full-back.

I'm not denying that he's been great for us, but I can't help feeling he's a bit overrated outside Reading because people remember him from his time at Leeds and that's why he pops up in these season reviews. Why's no-one mentioned Jimmy Kebe?

Agreed. Still, always nice for a Reading player to get some recognition, especially when it's one who isn't likely to be the subject of a too-tempting premiership bid.

The fewer mentions for Kebe the better... :?

Considering the Ian Harte bit was about "signing of the season" - are you really surprised not to see Kebe win that?

I mean generally, TROLI, not just that article (which does go on to talk about the rest of the Football League). Ian Harte being the only Reading player in the "Championship Team of the Season" for instance. If I had to pick one Reading player, Harte would be up there, but his name isn't the one I'd pick first. Just getting a bit fed up of it tbh. It's like that's all anyone knows about our team.

LOL @ 'the rule', as if the compilation of top scorers charts are somehow governed by some sort of jurisdiction.

There MUST be a rule because people bet on it.

How would someone feel if their player scored 15 goals for Plymouth, then 10 for RFC, toal 25 but Corals didn't pay out`/

OR conversely

How would someone betting on the Watford guy feel if the above player nicked it?

There must be a formal rule somewhere.

Certainly, in the past, goals for other clubs DID count.

Isn't his name Gary Harte? That's what BBC South Today called him on Monday.

Hoist by your own petard there, Snowball. I'm pretty sure that no bookie has ever counted goals in another division towards a player's total for the divisional top scorer market, regardless of the BBC's changing whims (goals for other clubs in the same division, yes).

That's possibly why countless people have questioned your inclusion of the Carlisle goals in Harte's tally.

When he can't succeed from 12 yards he should be in all sorts of danger of losing his place in the team because his defending is absolutely rancid. Oh, and his corners were rubbish today as well.

He was our best defender v Pompey on Tuesday

His crossing was also as good as others today I.e McAnuff

Where's the similar comment about Noel hunt? Here we have a man meant to be our leading striker who is unfortunately as thick as pigshit

Floyd......

You're talking complete bollox - as usual. If you don't rate Harte, then fine, but he had a reasonable game unlike Pearce and Bongani. So you sound a bit of a twat slagging him abouut today.

His corners were good today, maybe you were scratching your arse when he bent and dipped one on to Pearces right foot at the back post?. His freekick somehow got kept out, and his penalty was almost perfect, just a blinding save from the keeper.

Williams and Gooding echoed these words re the penalty after the match too, i'd rate their opinion over yours.
