We needed a big signing to get this deadline day up and running and now we have one: Former Everton and Portsmouth striker Yakubu, 32, has joined Championship side Reading. Yakubu recently left Qatari club Al Rayyan and was a free agent.

Bbc sport went as far as calling it a big signing lololol

Told #readingfc are 'very unlikely' to do any more business. But there is plenty of time left. That can change. No one is going home yet.

Not a bad shout. I remember him being referred to as Shaka Hislop much more than Yakubu is ever called Aiyegbeni though.

I guess there's the Icelandic players and the Korean ones, who have different naming traditions.

Great signing. Fair play to Hammond. You don't hear from him all year then he pulls the rabbit out of the hat on transfer deadline day.

Not the best signing but equally not the worse.

Proven goalscorer which is what we need, but lacks pace which is also what we need!

Takes a better penalty than HRK!

Free transfer until the summer where we can build again with a new striker that won't cost the earth cos "its January"

Good move by the club if you ask me

Cant imagine what obscene wage (payp or not) has tempted him to move back here to have another go

meanwhile Eoin Doyle joins Cardiff for £400k upfront.....

The barber shops of Reading will soon be offering a special promotion on 'back, sack, and Yak'

Because teams relegated from the Prem are exempt from FFP in their first season in the Championship.

No they aren't.

The newly relegated clubs must comply with the FFP rules in full. During their first December in the Championship, a newly relegated club does not have to submit their accounts for the previous season (i.e. the accounts relating to the season when they were in the Premier League). However QPR, Reading and Wigan will need to submit their accounts for the 2013/14 season to the Football League (and will be hit with a sanction if their 2013/14 accounts show that losses exceeded the permitted thresholds).

The only reason you may think they don't have to comply is because during their first season back in the Championship they don't have to submit any accounts, but that is only because they relate to their previous season in the Premier League.

Whilst we'll end up signing Nicky Maynard cos he's free

And before anyone brings up how close we are to FFP that is more than a million less than we were reportedly ready to spend on Murray!

What's with the questions over his age? He looks 32, and is, apparently, 32. :|

Have to say I really don't understand the negativity around this. We clearly can't go around spending big bucks atm due to the wage bill we're still carrying, so to bring in a proven, quality striker who will be a good influence in the dressing room and with the younger players for a few months is an absolute win win.

Similar age to Murray - considerably better goalscoring record - and doesn't require being given a long contract or a hefty transfer fee.
