Reading Football Club can confirm that striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has left to join Russian club Dynamo Moscow.

31-year-old Pogrebnyak had a year remaining on his deal at Madejski Stadium, having joined in the summer of 2012. He played 87(+19) times for the Royals, scoring 28 goals, and we would like to wish him the best of luck back in his homeland.

All the best to the Pog, i always liked this guy, he always put a great shift in but it never really worked for him. Well that should free up some cash to get a decent striker in...watch this space i guess.

Great move by the club, as much as I liked the guy, he simply wasn't worth the money we were paying him.

In just a few games Sa has shown us exactly what we've been missing in terms of hold up play and ability up front, what we need now is a poacher to get the goals so if this goes someway to us being able to bring one into the club then fantastic.

Cheers Pog.

This is only a good move if we sign a striker with a better goal scoring record than Pog before the transfer window closes. Otherwise it is insane!

Wow really didn't see that coming...

A year left on his deal ...left on a free then? or will there be a payment? ... (undisclosed of course if there is)

And of course there's the small matter of the 200 squazillion quid he was on every week - major saving one would hope would be re-invested in the squad.

The final piece of the Zingarevich dynasty has been exorcised

Must mean that the Beric deal is close I presume.

I would like to think that with our current goal scoring record that the club have already got someone lined up, Pog would have got us 10-15 goals this season with a fully fit team and the new creative players at our disposal. I really hope its the Beric move, as that would show real intent by the club.

Now watch us fail to sign a striker before the window slams shut

We would all like to think that but quite often with RFC it doesn't appear to work out that way.

I agree with your assessment on the goals that Pog would have got - might even be slightly light!

saving almost an entire year on Pog's contract, that's £1.5m of wages saved, does that give us a bit more leeway in the Beric deal?

Brave of him.

I assume he's not going for money (he got plenty of that here) or because he was homesick (in several interviews I've read he liked England and wanted to stay).

Possibly the highest profile signing ever made by this club - I could hardly believe we'd got someone like him when I heard he'd joined. Never quite worked out, but not many with any sense would suggest it was through any lack of effort on his part.

I would have really loved him to have banged in 20 goals in his final season with us so he could leave on a high and we'd have reason to remember him as a success, not just as a really hard working bloke who rarely delivered. Mind you, the rumoured wages he was on were always going to mean he'd have to be a Messi before Reading fans were happy.

I too remember the joy on his face when he scored at Loftus Road in the League Cup.

All the best Pav.

Really hope they have another striker up there sleeve. Leaves us with 2 recognised first team strikers and another that is up and coming but is injured. Think we should start showing some love towards cox because we are going to need him at this rate
