List of postponed matches from over the years

by Big Foot » 20 Oct 2017 09:04

Random question, but does anyone out there have a list of Reading matches that have been postponed in the last, say 10 years please?

I looked at the fixtures & results section on here, there's no record I could see of P:P

Haha I asked this in a different thread. I think everyone is worried it's gonna get called off tomorrow like it did in '02.

Why can't a 'big club' like Sheffield United get pitch drainage?

sure it was over 10 years ago now but does anyone remember that bournemouth game that was at least postponed twice?

i think we set out on both occasions.

also recall the game at the withdean being called off due to a frozen pitch. parked the car near the ground and the gates were open so we had a walk on the pitch. knew it wasn't going ahead and it was solid, so had a day out in brighton instead.

To start with - since 2000

POSTPONED

Burnley (H) FA Cup in 2010 was postponed just before kick off owing to a persistent torrential downpour of very heavy rain delivering more water than the drainage could cope with
Sunderland (A) was postponed at about 1:30pm on 25th August 2012 due to the great drainage at the "Bowl of Water"

ABANDONED

Fulham (H) last season due to fog despite the fact it cleared up at half time
Leicester (H) in about 2004 due to rain

Anyone recall the others?

Bournemouth twice away 00/01
Brighton away 01/02
Leicester City home abandoned HT 02/03
Sheff Utd away 02/03
Burnley home FAC 06/07
Newcastle home 09/10
Sunderland away 12/13
Fulham home abandoned HT 16/17

That's from memory - there are probably more.

I think you'll find there are some corrections and clarifications in there (see Sutekh's post...and yours actually, with full pedantry mode on you'll find that Newcastle was Jan 2010 ). If you find that unhelpful then the problem is all yours.

I should also add Doncaster away 11/12. Does that sufficiently satisfy the contribution police?

BF also asked for a list. I provided a list.

I really can't remember when these were, but I've been on my way to games at Palace and QPR when have been postponed.

Not in the last ten years as Big Foot asked, but Workington away in the 1960,s four of us in one car plus one other who made his own way there, (could not get five people into a Ford Anglia in those days). Raining all the way across the Lake District should have warned us. The game was called off 30 minutes before kick-off. Great evening in their players lounge with the Reading players was probably better than the footie would have been!

not in the last ten years either but i think it was a league cup tie at elm park v bury (?)

i think bury were 2 nil up and the match was abandoned around half time due to a waterlogged pitch.

i'm pretty sure we won the re-scheduled game.

On my way down the M4 on Boxing Day 93 when the game against Bristol Rovers was postponed.

On a Smith's coach that arrived at a densely fog-bound Vicarage Road for a FA Cup tie against Watford in 71 that was postponed a few minutes later. Thankfully could not make the rearranged game, which we lost 0-5.

I drove up from Minehead for the abandoned League Cup tie against Bury. Got absolutely drenched on the TE and had to borrow some clothes from my uncle for the drive back.

Both within a month or so of each other, 96/97. QPR was postponed about 20 minutes from kick off, Palace around an hour. I made it to Shepherds Bush Market and Thornton Heath before finding out the news

Yep, that happened in 95/96. Bury 2-0 up after 20 minutes, match abandoned after 28 I believe. We won the replayed fixture 2-1 with a late winner from Jimmy Quinn.

Cardiff away circa 80's was called off due to a waterlogged pitch about an hour before kickoff and Watford away Christmas 1996 was called off quite late on with a frozen pitch. Thing is I don't really go to that many away games but I made the journey to both of them.
