Maneki Neko
genome I agree with those who are saying we don't need a massive overhaul. I think that would be foolish.

.

for me its not just important to swap poor players for better players, but its also very important to bring enough in so that the pervading feeling within the squad isn't all about this seasons abject failure and terrible performances.

Exactly why I feel 5 first team signings is about enough if counterbalanced with the same amount going out. Keeps the core squad here and adds quality to that.

We don’t need to sell everyone and buy a whole new squad

we also need to trim the squad as well. Would happily lose 10 and bring in 2 or 3 quality signings plus a few u23s

100% agree with you but who realistically is going to take Dangerous Dave Edwards off our hands and those of his ilk? Really worries me we are going to be stuck with the likes of Yann and JVDB......

Royal_jimmy Who would you like us to bring in over the summer?

Early doors yet, but here's a few names, ages, to get started...

Two realistic targets I'd like, would fill a need, and could be available:

DefMid - Gary Gardner 25 Barnsley (on loan from Villa)
Striker - Gary Madine 27 Cardiff

Others to consider:

DefMid/CB - Tom Naylor 26 Burton
LeftMid - George Moncur 24 Barnsley
DefMid - Lee Cattermole 30 Sunderland

May not be available:

DefMid/CB - Conor Coady 25 Wolves
DefMid - Romain Saïss 28 Wolves
DefMid - Joe Ralls 24 Cardiff
DefMid - Marco Grujic 22 Cardiff (on loan from Liverpool)

Some great shouts there.
Except Cattermole, think he is a lil over the hill and has been on a bit of a downward spiral last few seasons. I know we need some bite in the middle but he is a bit too thuggish IMO. However if he was the only real option, I would have him over JvDB, Evans and Edwards.
Gardner is an interesting one as he was very promising at the start of his career but has had most of his football career playing out on loan.

I think we need a big overhaul, I also think we can't afford one and they rarely work.

The overhaul should be of training methods, coaching and fitness rather than players imo

A proper pre-season fixture schedule would seem a must

As would an overhaul of the medical/sports science set-up.

Yann may still decide to retire given his body appears to be crocked. Wouldn't surprise me if JVDB ends up back in Holland - had a decent, though not amazing career over there before joining us.

Massive +1 to this. Most important thing we need to focus on.

Would be nice to try and enter a friendly cup competition, lots of photo ops which in turn, boosts sponsorship money. Plus keeps players interested in actually winning rather than just turning up. Also gives PC a decent chance to implement his game plans from the start, working with the players we actually have, IMO a wholesale change of players is not gunna solve our problems.

For a winger add Hakeeb Adelakun to that.

If it's a 5-aside we might even manage to field a competitive team.

Agree that the coaching methods have to be carefully looked at over Summer - this team severely underperformed, and it can't just be pinned on a couple of lacklustre signings or the manager.

Having said that, we'll obviously look to improve the squad over Summer. It could be completely overhauled, though I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this:

Mannone/Bond
Gunter - Moore - Ilori - Obita
Harriott - Kelly - New DM - Barrow
Novakovich/Smith - Bodvarsson/New ST

Subs: Mannone/Bond/Legg, Richards/Watson/New LB, McShane/New CB, Bacuna, Swift, Aluko, Smith/Loader

I'm not sure who's out of contract (Bond, McShane, Quinn, Jaakkola?), so may change dependent on that.

Think we really need LB cover, another winger and a defensive midfielder better than Edwards or VdB. A striker would be nice, but if they're not getting service it's probably pointless as we saw with Martin this season, and Novakovich has been playing very well on loan so it's probably worth giving him a chance.

Wouldn't be too bothered if any of Aluko, Rakels, VdB, Blackett, Edwards, Popa, or Wieser leave. Kermorgant and McCleary look past it, but I can't bring myself to want them gone from the club.

I think Meite, Novakovich, Mendes, Loader, Rinhomota should all get a chance pre-season and could be useful squad players.
