windermereROYAL I worry about the soft centre of our defence tonight. McShane and Ilori hardly fill you with confidence.

If that is the back 2 we are screwed. McShane's slowness and Ilori's lack of a defensive brain power combined is a recipe for a tragedy.

Whats your preference then? O'Shea?

Moore is not playing

Dear god him and McShane.......Douglas Bader could outpace those 2. I would have preferred Blackett but Ive realised hes suspended.
We just look such a shambles before even kicking off. What happened to our brilliant youth policy that we bring a 37 year old with no pace into the squad.....

We bought in one 37 year old who won’t play much. We’re also likely to play a 20 year old from the academy tonight but let’s ignore that shall we?

We’re not a shambles, just received an injury. Blackett and possibly Hause will be back for the next game.

Ask Stam about the youth policy. he and his cronies decimated that and scattered them throughout the various leagues

Don’t start that one again, both Fosu and Stacey were offered new contracts but turned them down as they wanted first team football by moving down the leagues. If they had opted to stay then, as it happens, both were likely to have gathered more first team apps for Reading and who knows where that would have led them but at the time Reading had just lost out in a play off final and so they were never likely to be automatic starters at the beginning of last season. So they took a chance and have done quite well.

As to the others that left for league clubs, don’t think any did particularly much of anything worthwhile.

Only thing I would be critical of Stam over perhaps was the stupidity of letting Dickie go to Oxford in January when Reading were just hitting a defensive crisis.

And as to our current youth policy, both promising strikers are out on loans for the season, just where they need to be. Richards is in the first team squad fairly regularly, Rinomhota is also knocking on that door. Watson is going to have a season at Wimbledon which will hopefully show exactly what he can do.

That leaves Loader, Andresson, Legg and Southwood who will hopefully also get loans at decent levels.

The others, like Holmes, Holsgrove etc. need to step up in the U23s

Southwood and Rinomhota pictured on the pitch by Jonathan Low on Twitter, both to be on the bench? Would be surprised if Southwood is on the bench.

A slightly dodgy pairing at CB, a kid at LB, a normally non-deadly CF (although I like him), two wingers who don’t track back enough, and one who’s been out of form for more than a season. A lightweight-looking midfield.

Hard to see us not conceding the first two goals and then having to throw on our two new forwards and a priest.

Why do all the names on the backs of both teams have asterisks?

Not much going on in this thread. Our play must be too positive!

That's one hell of an attacking bench for us!

Less than 60% PA and less than 30% possession is not a great sign 20 minutes in.

JVB is an absolute donkey. Good god.

The sort of player you expect to miss 90% of his chances and when one goes in you are shocked and delighted. Nowhere near the quality required for an accomplished championship team.

Weird to see our RB crossing the ball with accuracy!

I've gotten too used to Gunter blasting them well over.
