biff Loader has looked very handy really. Very tidy link up play, cant expect the chap to be up front alone, especially with the "wingers" we have. Keep him around the first team set up, he'll learn a hell of a lot on the job along side a strike partner. A goal will bring many imo

+1

All well and good except we haven't played with two upfront for years and show little sign of changing that.

We absolutely need to persist with him, but that doesn't preclude giving him a break from starting or some U23 games to get his shooting boots back on.

True. Then he's perfect for 1 up front, some very good link up play to bring in wingers. But we have donkeys on the wing that wont get anywhere near him to help. Lumping to Meite is a mugs game, he's a proper clodhopper in comparison, no nuance to his game.

URZZZZ
TiagoIlori Loader has only played like what 11 games of professional football? I think the championship is a great league for him to adapt to, we need to give him time because he won’t develop if he’s constantly in and out the first team. Give him until the end of the season then reevaluate his position. There’s clearly something about him that warrants us being patient with him, no guarantees when it will happen but it’s either play him or lose him. Plenty of clubs looking at him as we speak I’m very sure of that.

Have you looked at the league table recently? We don't have time to let him develop, OK if we're sitting in 14th then it's a valid argument, but we can't be waiting for young players to deliver in the position we're in

Considering the players haven’t been much better in his position I think we’re better off playing him. There will be times when results go first yes, so the bench is good for him in that respect. Sending him back to the U23’s after 10 games is a mistake

Loader is too inexperienced, too small and too shot shy to be a good option to lead the line on his own in a relegation battle at this point in time.

Just as a quick comparison (and this is in no way saying he's rubbish, not good enough, or not worth giving game time), here's his shooting record compared to our other strikers

Shots per game
Meite - 2.9
Baldock - 1.3
Bodvarsson - 1.3
Loader - 1.2
McNulty - 0.8

Shots on target per game
Meite 1.2
Bodvarsson - 0.8
Baldock - 0.6
Loader - 0.4
McNulty - 0.3

% on target
Bodvarsson - 62%
Baldock - 46%
Meite - 41%
McNulty - 38%
Loader - 33%

Goals per game
Bodvarsson - 0.9
Meite - 0.3
Baldock - 0.3
McNulty - 0.2
Loader - 0

On top of that, he's dispossessed marginally less than Meite, but more than the others. His first touch is better than their's with the exception of McNulty who is marginally better. I mean, really we need better than any of them, given Bod is a perma crock who had a purple patch and Meite is a bit of a raw lump who had a purple patch. But I'd go with Bod or Meite over Loader to lead the line in a heartbeat, and I'd have more confidence in McNulty or Baldock scoring too.

And we need goals. Loader isn't bringing them.

He needs to be around the squad and pick up games here and there, but we don't want to put too much pressure on and we certainly don't want to put a monkey on his back about scoring by risking him going on a long barren spell in a losing team whilst asking him to carry the weight of goalscoring duty.

McNulty and Baldock are shit. Bought for millions and barely better than an 18 year old.

And yet Baldock is demonstrably better at finishing in his first team appearances this season and both have scored.

Loader could be a cracking player for us. He needs more development first though and just playing him game after game isn't the best way of getting him there IMO.

I have to agree Loader is certainly promising, good movement etc, and may well come good, but in a relegation battle we want someone who knows where the net is without even having to think about it. Getting into good positions is useless if you don't then have that killer instinct. Perhaps he was just stage shy against Man U and we can't write him off after that, but do we want to be risking survival in this league on the basis that he might have just been shy but will do better next time?

I'm sure Gomes can see our desperate priority of a decent striker who can lead the line on his own.

Where's Forster when you need him?

Is this the same Curo who barely scored for us at this level?

Harsh, he scored six in five games from the start of the season, had a bit of a dry spell for six games, after which he got three dispersed league starts, and was otherwise stuck on the bench watching Fozzie before deciding to chase the bucks abroad.

Nine goals wasn't a bad return for 14 starts and 13 sub appearances. They just mostly came at once and our way of playing adapted away form what suited him. Butler got 2 goals that year.

Haha that face fills me with such happiness.

Ballgreedy **** but he bloody well knew where the goal was.

A team full of parkies and fozzies and we'll be fine.

I can’t recall a Reading player who played the lone striker role as well as Fozzy. He was incredible.

Shame it's a team of Bodins and Drenthes we've actually got.

Kitson > everyone else.

The generation above me will no doubt mention Quinn. Unfortunately I never saw him play
