URZZZZ Didn't make any howlers as such but there were simply too many "could have done better" moments, good decision to get rid IMO

He most definitely did make a few howlers. That said without his penalty save against QPR last season we could well be in League 1 right now.

From Despair To Where? He wasn't a disaster, just not the answer.

^ this.

To call him a disaster is a bit OTT.

very average is a better description imho

Yes. The Chris Gunter of goalkeeping.

Thankfuck we haven't had to enjoy hundreds of appearances over years for Mannone as well.

disaster in that a player on high wages and transfer fee let go on a long loan with us no doubt paying a lot of his wages still. When we could have probably picked up someone of equal quality on a free and half the wage. What do we reckon - overall cost of 3.5-4m to us for a desperately average keeper?

He wasn't a disaster, the deal for the club on the other hand was a disaster

IMO that is seriously unfair to Gunts, whatever about Ian's original dig.

Personally, would have Ian as more of the Mark Lawrenson of Hobnob....

Not fair on Gunter. How many caps for Wales has Mannone won?

apparently rejected the contract offer from Minnesota, from my understanding hes on mega-money, one of, if not the highest-paid player at the club. I wonder if any transfers in are dependant on him leaving this window.

Hopefully your employer doesn't have the same attitude if they needed to make cut backs!

If they want to pay me £15k-£20k p/w for a couple of years, they're welcome to.

Had heard similar. A shocking signing really all told.

Showed the wages he was on at Minnesota - was it $560k dollars for the year, and I think we were also paying some on top. Be great for the club when he is finally off the wage bill

The Mannone and Aluko deals together 2 of the worst in our history, and made a massive contribution to our FFP issues

Brilliantly played by Gomes treating him like shit and isolating him.

Really encouraged him to work with us and find another club rather than give us the finger and take our money whilst his contract runs down.

That's about £8k a week. Is that really a mega-wage for a Championship player ?
Decent and potentially higher than average (I have no idea about the average Championship wage), but not ridiculous.
(Assuming the $560k is correct)
